Anyone else have the misfortune to experience an 'air bag deployment' incident yet? About a month ago whilst heading outback for a holiday with our brand new [never slept in] Track T Van camper trailer; my wife had the misfortune to lose control of the whole shooting match as she attempted to overtake a cattle truck. The result was a totally destroyed camper trailer and a bent D3. The bull bar was pushed back on the bonnet and front left gaurd ;which in turn set off both curtain air bags along the roor lining.The problem now is to see how well the local technicians can replace the air bags and roof lining which gets torn out by the bags as they inflate. Here' s hoping  TDV6 HSE Zambezi/Tundra

Feel your pain Lex. I have wondered how the interior would go in the case of a deployment. I never want to find out empirically. Did you think I would leave you crying,

Oh not good, and Disco bent hope you are not hert,
As I understand it the air bags are set off by deceleration not impact, three sensors have to be activated simeltaionsly, they are very hard to set off  This came from a LR mechanic , he also told me they set them off in a training exercise. Oh to see that with them not going off in your face

Lex,Sorry to hear of your misfortune, I hope you weren't injured.
I have towed a Tvan for over 10,000km on a variety of roads and tracks and found it a breeze to tow, didn't really know it was there. Also I tried to make the D3 slide in a variety of conditions with and without the Tvan and couldn't get it to break free.
Would you care to elaborate more on your "prang" as I am sure all on here would be interested in how your D3 behaved ?
Any photos?
Surely the techs will fit new linings?

Sorry to hear about your accident. I can't help with the techinalities of air bag replacement, but I'm sure there are well laid out procedures for your dealer to follow.
It makes me realise that nothing is immune to accidents. I tow a large caravan, and the D3 tows so well it can instill a false sense of security. Your misfortune should make us realise that a heavy trailer can cause allsorts of problems in the wrong circumstance.

Thanks for the concern guys.Fortunately neither of us was injured. I was half asleep at the time;but I think my wife got off the bitumin and found that the gravel verge was very loose. Being an inexperienced tower of the van i think that she overcorrected when she felt the van moving sideways. This led to a big oversteer slide whereupon the van wheels dug into the ground and the van proceeded to roll.As we had an offroad type coupling the van could in effect roll without affecting the stability of the vehicle. But as you mention the T Van does tow very well. Luckily the Brisbane agent had another van in stock. So after getting the mess transported home [600 k's] we checked the wheel alignment;cut out the curtain airbags,pulled the bull bar and front gaurd away from the front wheel we proceeded to pick up a new van and drove 1300 k's to south of Menindee to rejoin our group. I think I might be the only bloke in Australia to have owned 2 new T Vans in a month. I'll post some photos soon

Glad to hear you were all ok after the crash.
Reminded me of a crash that I had as a kid when we lived out at St George out in SW QLD - we used to have to take the trip along the Moonee Hwy to Toowoomba a lot and we came unstuck in the family Range Rover (white three door purchased in 1977 for a year long trip around Australia). We had a head on with a Commodore, my Mum was driving and there’d been some rain around and at the time there was only one lane available on the road so when we saw a car approaching my Mum pulled off to the side of the road to let the other car through – unfortunately the black soil there is so sticky when wet that it built up on the outside tyres to such an extent that the difference in circumference with the inside tyres shot us across the road directly into the path of the Commodore. I was asleep at the time in the back of the car.
We hit with both cars doing about 40kph, luckily for us my Uncle (a boilermaker) had made us a steel 3inch thick bullbar. The result of the crash was one bent bulbar, slightly bent chassis and one written off Commodore. The three guys in the Commodore survived but were a bit shaken up – especially as the guy in the back seat wasn’t wearing his seatbelt, he hit the back of the front seat which broke off its mountings, launching the guy in the front seat into the windscreen where the laminated glass grabbed the front of his scalp and tore it off leaving a clump of hair in the windscreen and a lot of blood. I got a seat belt burn and the Rangie survived to drive another day.
My Dad also managed to roll a 30ft caravan behind the Rangie on the same road but that’s another story.
