Our D3 - Photography
Was doing a big of playing about on the DSLR at the weekend and tried some new techniques when photographing and photoshopping the D3. It's really just brought the colour out in certain ones and toggled focal lengths etc. to make it look extra dramatic and give it more presence etc... We parked it on a hill on a rough surface for added effect, and I've been taking it from all sorts of angles (much to the baffled looks of passer-by golfers). Plus, making the most whilst it's clean(ish). Hopefully get some opposite photos after next weekend!

Nice pictures CY - now it needs some 'bits' to decorate it!!
Give me a wave if you see me around town tomorrow (Blue with expo & Sticker). Most likely sitting in a queue to the bridge on the A90 at teatime.

Nice pics - like the focussed (field of view?) shot.
However, I take issue with the 'Stance' shot. This is stance.....

That model effect is much in vogue at the moment and used a lot in advertising. It's caused when you have a wide field of view but a very short depth of field! (ie. a wide angle lens but small focus point) The reason it looks like a model is because in real life you only really see that point of view with very small things. You can get the effect with either a "tilt-shift" type lens or it's much easier with photoshop. For best effect look down on your subject and it'll look even more model like!
I've used the effect a lot and here's one I did of the Sassi in Italy...

Hi SN, What you did with Paintshop works well, looks really model like. It's not an easy effect to get even with any DLSR because what you are after is an artificially small depth of field. With any normal lens you can reduce the depth (amount thats's in focus) either by shooting with a wide aperture (on manual) or long focal length. Unfortunately, for this effect to look really good we need both a wide aperture and a short focal length which won't knock enough of the picture out of focus. The pro's do it with a lens called a "tilt-shift" lens often used in architectural photography to shift perspective but these start at around £2,000 so not an option for most of us. If you use Paintshop/Photoshop just try to keep everything at the same distance in focus and the trick works the same!
