White smoke on acceleration |
|
Noticed while driving back from Moz that D3 will spit out a cloud of white smoke when accelerating hard - at one time my brother send me a panicked SMS from behind thinking that the engine is about to blow.
First time it happened was while on the Land Rover experience course when vehicle was brand new and the instructor reckoned it is getting rid of the sulphur
Maybe high sulphur diesel in Moz ? - luckily not dirty AGAIN

I Had this at Tong yesterday and TFC was telling me it was a build up of gases in the Cat converter when you leave it on tick over for a long time, the smoke is gray and stinks, but my disco is fine and has not done it since. Arctic Frost Discovery 3 TDV6 SE, Active Rear Diff, Adaptive Head Lights, Tow Pack, Ebony Leather, Roof Rails, Mantec Guard. Tasmod Stainless Sill plates. Grabber AT's. Home made mud flaps. Side Steps back on until the next time.

Had this a few times, after the engine has been sitting at idle. I leave the engine running for the fridge because I've not got a 2nd battery. Tons of smoke when you first drive it. Not sure I'd call it white, though Disco 5 HSE Lux

Only time i have had it is when the vehicle has been ideling for a while and then the motor is put under load. The higher the sulpher content of the fuel the worse it is.
Had you been Ideling for a while or was it while driving?

Yup - while waiting at road blocks in Moz and Swaziland and kept vehicle idling for batteries to charge / fridge to run and then on take-off I try and make up some time lost
