Road Trip on Wednesday to South of France
First time ever we are making a road trip to Cagnes Sur Mer - looks like half way between Montpellier and Nice
Getting tunnel over around mid day on Wednesday, stopping Wednesday night in Dijon and completing the run on Thursday
Never done it or been there before, My only "ask" is after sitting around a boring pool for days can I drive to Monaco to do the tunnel and then sit around a boring pool for the remainder, doing same on the way back with a stop in Dijon
Anything we should be aware of ?

We arrived in Aix en Provence yesterday.
32 degrees.....bit of a struggle:-)
As you will be on toll roads, worth seeing if you can get a tolling tag from Sanef Tolling. Usually pretty quick delivery, saves a bit of time, and swmbo will not have to be woken to pay tolls. And as a driver you don't have to stop.
Mount the token on lhs of rear view mirror, and slow down to 20mph, (30kmh) and go down the lane with the 't' over it and the 30 above that.....fantastic add on to a journey.
Get the bill next month.

I would particularly recommend that you visit Les Halles, Dijon’s main covered marketplace early in your visit, a great place to buy food, but also architecturally significant as it was designed by Gustave Eiffel who also designed the tower in Paris.

Fabulous place to go and lots of places to visit...Les Gorges du Verdun is a must - great white water through a canyon close to the Med. Castellet also (near the Circuit du Paul Ricard) is an absolute must and the best Rose in the region - great Kids park not far away too

yep. big thing to be aware of - Traffic!! In Aug most of the coast roads are chocker, you dont get anywhere fast.
I didnt gett a toll pass, but would next time, recon I spent nearly 200 quid in tolls down and back (OK with tintent on the back, so class 2 tolls)
Did Calais to Gigny-sure-Soane between Dijon and Lyon in about 7 hours, had 3 days there then on down to Frejus (so a bit further west than Nice) in another 6 hours. Ok only travelling at 65ish.
Have a good trip as it is lovely down on the med coast.

Thanks Al - we thought about doing one straight run all the way down but on reflection decided we should do it in 5 - 6 hour chunks with a stop at Dijon - then if the traffic is bad its halved so to speak. Really hoping mid week will be a bit easier or am I delusional ?
I should have thought about the Pass thingy before and now don't want to take the risk of it not turning up. There doesn't seem to be a "pay more and get next day guarantee ".
I have estimated about £100 each way on tolls so really hoping it wont be too much more
Trying to clear everything up at work today/tomorrow so we can go without having to think about work too much
Looking forward to it even tho I decided to take the company car and not the disco
One question - they say get off the Auto routes to get gas as its a lot cheaper, can you do this without incurring additional on/off costs? The issue with my Mitsubishi PHEV is its got a tank the size of a thimble and no way I can charge it so lucky if I can get more than 260 a tank, one of the reasons for the split journeyD4 HSE - Aintree Green

For diesel 3 weeks ago, I only paid the equivilent of £1.10 per liter at the motorway services, so as ASDA here is £1.09 it wasnt worth dropping off the motorway to get fuel. Once we were down there, supermarket fuel was 98p per ltr at the lowest, most around 1.02, so a bit cheaper but not massively so compared to here at home.

Heading over by the Chunnel? Then the diesel at the station in the way out is about 10c less than the Autoroute, or a very short detour to the new Carrefour station and it's 20c/ltr cheaper, €1.05/ltr.
Mobicarbu, better data (doesn't rely on user updates) and can save favourites.

PS And for anyone heading over The Hump (some call it the Pyrenees), there's the Andocarbur app for some luverly cheap diesel.
