Even better, put the manly D3 grille back, and those tough plastic coloured wheel arches that made it look so much better! Thumbs Up

Yes, driveways and shopping centres parking around the world are littered with shopping bags fallen out of boots, you know, with all those millions of people owning cars without a split tail gate.

I believe it is a plot by the shopping centres with car manufactures, so that people have to buy twice to replace what they dropped.

My point is Gerry McGovern ain't going to give two flying Censored 's what anyone thinks ...the proof is in the sales and no doubt the new D5 will fly off the shelves Very Happy

whatever the D5 is it doesn't diminish the practicality of the D3/4...you done have to buy one (if you can)
4x4 vehicles like the Disco arent or shouldn't be bought on "style" they are all about practicality...or to me they are.
If you look at the launch brochures for the D3 - the concept was a multi purpose vehicle - it was an incremental improvement on what went before.
OK some dont:
- fill the D3/4 to the gunnels with kit....you dont have to compromise & hire a van or use a trailer
- go off road....but you can if you want or need to
- tow huge trailers...but lots do & is the reason the vehicle was bought
- use the rear AC......if you have & it works (mine does) brilliant for the comfort of passengers
- use the 6/7 seats...you dont have to but you can & the passengers dont have to be deformed or vertically challenged
- exploit the capabilities to go..... where others dont...winter driving.....you just drive where others cant - fitted as standard
- use or need the spilt tailgate..if its good enough for the FFRR its a brilliant feature that I appreciate....if you dont care or want something else .....then go buy something else

OK some are not happy & feel the style is dated, needs refreshing...it doesnt alter diminish what we have right now
whats going to happen is that D3's/D4's are going to become sought after vehicles
...look after what you have got, be happy with that, keep it secure - its a Classic vehicle.

Rolling with laughter You clearly dont use the D3/4 boot in the same way that i do then. Mine is always full and stacked up against the lower tailgate with the GSD in the other half of the boot. Pretty sure thats what most owners use it for. Something not possible with that Censored design on the D5. Its kind of obvious to see. Wink

Edit, just noticed the RRS in your avitar. Maybe your not familiar with the advantages of the split tailgate. Rolling Eyes

Yes, I get the advantages that a split tailgate might give, as well as the disadvantages.

It is not something I would use everyday so I do not miss it in my RRS or Defender.

And, should I need to pack till the tailgate, I still have the split rear window.

I doubt that most Disco owners go around everyday with the boot filled up to the tailgate.

I just find it funny to see people go out of their way to find or make up reasons not to like the new model.

No D5 for me as I will not entertain having to move the car just so I can open the boot.

Madness. JLR copies the rest of the market and arrives 5 years too late to compete with all the other jelly-mould urban SUVs.

I'm open minded...& forced to being noncommittal.
if what I have is knackered, too costly to keep, wrong for my needs.

I prefer products that are based on the correct concept, sound design well made & purposeful...
one feature I really appreciate is the tailgate...it gives the access to the HUGE load / cargo area...which is what the Disco 3/4 is all about.

I realise many run with their vehicle on or two up...never or rarely a cargo.....thats their choice & need - but not mine. The tailgate is one feature that isn't about style (in the opinion of the viewer/user) its about practically (factual / practical / usable).

I think a big mistake for LandRover.....mistakes they are good at.

BLFarrar, I understand your point and not all users have the same needs, for some the split tailgate might be absolutely necessary, for others might be just a nice to have, for others might be a negative.

What I find strange is dismissing totally a vehicle only on the base of a few pictures.

How do you know the D5 cannot fit a lot of cargo? (yes probably less than the D4)

How do you know the D5 cannot off-road as well or better than the D4?

How do you know the D5 cannot pull a big trailer as well as the D4?

The D5 doesn't have rear AC?

What is the size of rear passengers that the D5 can accommodate?

How do you know the D5 cannot go on the snow as well or even better than the D4?

Granted on the Spilit gate, if you need it.

How much more room behind does the D5 need compared to the D4?

You dont miss it in your RRS or defender because it was never there.
You might be surprised how many Disco 3/4 owners do use the split tail gate.
Rolling with laughter Im not making up reasons to not like it. Its fact. Look at the thing! Its a very real genuine reason FOR ME not to like it. Although im sure it will suit RRS owners with 3 or more kids. Whistle Its just another 7 seat version of the RRS now. Banging Head
Just as well Disco 3/4's have a very long life. I will be sticking with them.

While I do like the split tailgate and do use it, not a deal breaker for me because it it does make life more difficult when it comes to getting stuff out of the load space, short of dropping a rea seat and pushing it back or climbing in, the event platform solves that. As for the height I rarely use multi stories so wouldnt bother me.

Seems like you are trying to belittle or dismiss RRS owners, probably makes you feel stronger, well...
Guess what, they chose the car that better suited them, strange concept isn't it?

Correct, and in 10 years not once I felt like I needed it, and few times I really loaded it up.

LR must know people love the split tailgate, they have even gone to great trouble to engineer a half arsed solution in that stupid slide out seat thing to cover one of the uses that people love the split design for.
They went to all that trouble, why not just make it a split tailgate in the first place?
As well as normal people, they also must know many film and TV producers love the split tailgate... Now LR has effectively lost quite a nice market as those people will look at other cheaper options as the one thing they really liked and was extremely practical has gone.
