Rust
Service next week and a few bits to get sorted.
Current issues.
1 Clunk from front suspension at low speed and particularly in off-road height at low speed.
TSB A211-002?
2 Driver’s seat has creased. TSB LA501-031? Occurred at less than 20k.
3 Air bag warning light coming on every day. Seems to be related to driver’s seat.
Getting out of car with engine on will provoke airbag light although comes on frequently with no cause.
4 Steering wheel boss needs put back on correctly after cruise control button repair.
5 Visible rust on chassis welds and tow electric area.
Has anyone had any feedback on the chassis rust? Is it up to me to invest in a Waxoyl treatment? Has anyone had the tow electric area rust sorted. Was about to start Hammeriting but thought I'd let them see it first.
Thanks,
BCP

I think its pretty universal that most D3 will have surface rust on the edges of the metal around the tow hitch. Mine is just the same. There is also surface rust on the chassis welds.
The vehicle has a corrosion guarantee, which lasts many years (not sure how many).
The only way to halt this sort of corrosion is a full waxoil chassis treatment.

...or accept that steel will corrode and get on with you life in happy ways
The minescule bits of corrosion on a Disco3 are (IMO) are not worth losing sleep over in the first ten years, parts such as the rear towing eye cavity can be treated with a bit of Hammerite as a self-help repair if it bothers you, for a component that can be loaded up with the weight of three other cars, it's hardly going to rust away overnight

Thanks, planning to keep it for a few years. Had a Terrano that did the same.

Surface generally remains as surface rust. It actually forms a barrier which prevents further corrosion.
What plagued Land Rovers (and indeed all cars) of old was the rust 'traps' where road dirt etc collected and formed a damp mass sitting against the steel.
On the D3, I dont see much evidence of mud collecting in the chassis. The only area that may become a problem is later life is behind the plastic wheelarch and sill trims. When I removed my wheel arch recently, it was full of damp mud.

Had the same issues - tow socket area and seams.
Dealer waxoiled chassis FOC.
[They also sprayed my drivers door FOC where some B d had keyed it.]...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

My local dealer Guava in Godalming put the Land Rover underseal in the tow bracket area FOC, they did a rust inspection and found no other areas of concern.
I have also sprayed waxoyl around the front when I fitted the Mantec plate as there was the odd surface rust spot where the paint/underseal had gone. I will continue to give the odd areas a squirt of waxoyl to prevent further decline.2016 D4 Landmark
