Do I need new brakes?
Hi,
I have the most basic Discovery 3 (2006MY). On a recent trip a warning light flickered on (attached)
Is this a brake pad sensor warning light? Does it mean that in all likelihood the brake pads and/or discs need replacing?
By way of additional context, when the light first appeared it flickerd on/off BONG, BONG! until it became steady state on. In that time pressing the brake pedal or applying the parking brake set this light/sound alert off. The rear discs have a visible lip which I would guess is 1-2mm in.
I have an IID tool so I also read the codes. This one was present which is consummate (kms) with the time when the alert first went off
Parking brake
U0122-87(A8)
Lost communication with vehicle dynamics control module
Also- an amber light for the parking brake appeared the other day (When I went out to read the codes). This went when I cleared the accumulated codes.
I have bought a brake light switch as a precaution, but should I also be planning to buy discs and pads?
Impossible to know without a visual inspection. The brake pad wear indicator does not measure disc thickness and so will give no indication to their condition.

Thanks
Is it possible to say if this is a brake pad sensor warning? Could this be connected to the park brake message?

It's indicating new pads are required.
Either front or rear.
Inspection required, and maybe a good time to fit discs
