What choice to replace 18" Pirelli Scorpions?
I've looked at the threads but an still confused. I'm happy with the Pirellis but they are worn out all round at 19,000 miles. I don't do much off road - just enough to get the horse trailer or dogs up a few rough tracks and the odd field - so am mainly after on road performance. What are my best choices
My first set of Scorpions went at 16k. Replaced with Wranglers which seem to be slightly better - both on and off road. I'm now at 31k and it looks like I'm going to get slightly better (though not much) mileage from them. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

My scorpions were thrown away after only 16000KM with too few profile on it to fit them again next summer.
The next ones, wranglers, lasted for two summers, put the aside again due to disappearing profile because I want maximum safety and the tire is where safety starts.
Today my Continental XL FR CrossContact UHP arrived.
In various tests, they performed best safety-wise.

I've had Wranglers on both D2's and the D3. Got over 30k miles out of the 255/55x19's. They still had 2.5mm on when I took them off. They get very noisy once you go below 3mm. I've been running Scorpions, and they dont look as "chunky" as the Wranglers did.
I know a lot of folks dont like the goodyears, but I'd definately go with them, not bad off road as well for a standard tyre.

I wonder why some folks tyres wear out at 'low' mileages?
I did nearly 17,000 miles on my Scorpions and have just sold the wheels/tyres with at least 4-5mm tread left.
Probably good for another 10,000 miles IMHO as they start out with just over 8mm

Slightly off topic, but my 17's running Continental's are still going strong with 4mm of tread at 32k. Ok i've done about 2k on the MTR's, but still 30k+ aint bad

The Wranglers would be my choice. Great on road (felt better then the Scorpions on the new one) and pretty darn good off road.
Will get AT2's probably next change or put 4 new wranglers on my 17's for the spring.

I got 24k out of my Scorpions and had tread to spare on the rear ones, replaced them with Scorpions.2016 D4 Landmark

Take a look at Michelin - harder than the Scorpion, better off-road too.

Had Wranglers on my D2 - they were OK. Tended to wear quickly.
I now have the Michelin Tour HP - the replacement for the Synchros. Excellent long wearing tyre. Difficult to compare to the Wranglers on a different car. They don't look very hard, but they easily go over a muddy field. They're very quiet, very smooth, grip like glue to single track country roads, and handle very well in the wet and snow. Highly recommended - best tyres yet. Vastly better than the Kuhmos that were on before.

Thanks for all the advice. Looks like the Continentals might be a good bet - they seem to be a bit cheaper than the Pirellis too.

Just ordered 4 Continentals for £542 all in. Landrover garage quoted £816 for 4 Pirellis, so I'm a bit happier now.

Latitudes. For the driving I do they are far superior to (and cheaper than) the Scorpion. Very good on icy roads too....gave them a good test on Monday morning
