I just took the dog for a walk and in the process lost the keyfob for my car (alarm/key .....black thing whatever its called!)
Questions:
1. Can the existing key be reprogrammed to make the "lost" one useless
2. Is it a simple job to buy a replacement key ?
3. Why does it always happenn to me!!!!!!!
Help on this one welcomed - I'm a bit stuck right now! (I do have the spare so I'm not too worried about the car going missing ...... but just want to be sure!)D3 05 SE (old one)
RRS 08 SE (new one)

I am sure you can blank the lost key, Land Rover Assistance may even do it if it's an emergency. If you lost it near to home I would be a bit cautious and immobilise the car somehow.
I expect a new key is quite expensive.

Could've done with one of these attached to a certain side step part the other day Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
sorry, been caught up with other things and just seen the update/new post to your problem...
Ok, if you take you car and current key to your dealer they can put on IDS and tell it you want to programme 1 key...since the key you have left will be the key in the ignition this will then knock out the code from the old key so that old key will no longer work.
When you replace the lost key with a new...or find the old you can then take back to dealers and have them reprogemme 2 keys....
you cannot do this manually....without seeing your or any other dealer....
As to cost....£150 ?? plus activation
Retail for 1 key CWE500041SW is £91.09 inc vat.

Yes the old key can be disabled
"It is advisable to notify your retailer as soon as
possible if a key transmitter is lost or stolen,
and have the remaining transmitters
reprogrammed. This will prevent access to the
vehicle using the lost/stolen transmitter."

Just seen these on ebay, thought might be cheaper to get these and then get a new key cut at your dealer. Cant find the thread but someone on here said you could get a new key blank for £12 from your dealer.

Another couple of points
1] Try and hire/borrow a metal detector and retrace your walk.
2] Report the loss to your local Police Station - another walker may find it and hand it in.
Good luck!

It isn't a blank you can get for £12 from the dealer - it is actually the cut key for your vehicle. Reprogramming comes in at 0.5 hour labour or about £40 plus vat.
(Twas me that posted the key issue - trying to get an additional key programmed to my car)
