Tyre Rubbing
Actively looking to get some 17" D3 rims for off road.
But have an option of 3 widths on the tyres I'm after.
I do believe though from older threads that there is an issue on tyres rubbing.
1] where do they rub - is it the front upright?
2] what wheel/tyre size combination does this happen on.
Have no issue whatsoever with my [road] Stormers and 295/20/45 tyres...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

With 265/70/17 tyres (around 31.5" to 32.5" depending on manufacturer), you'll get a slight rub in the front of the rear wheel well - there's a raise in the wheel-well plastic there that covers a metal seam. Those without front bull-bars have noted some rubbing in the front as well. Taller tyres than 32.5" don't seem possible without some serious modification. As for width, as long as you keep the diameter down below 32", it seems 295 (as you've tried) is probably the limit.

Thinking on Coopers STT's.
So it would appear that it's the overall diameter of the Tyre rather than the width that causes rubbing?
Therefore an STT 235/70/17 should have the same clearance as a 265/70/17.
Is this correct?...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
No, the 70 is the the sidewall depth as a percentage of the width so:
235/70 Standard = 164.5mm sidewall, 760.73mm (29.95") overall diameter
245/70 STT = 171.5mm sidewall, 774.7mm (30.50") overall diameter
265/70 STT = 185.5mm sidewall, 802.64mm (31.60") overall diameterThe End

The other issue you may have going for wider tyres on 17" rims is rubbing caused by the width, they're narrower (7") than the 18" & 19" (8" wide) so I think the centre line maybe further in. Probably the only way to be sure is to find a friendly fitter who'll let you try a few sizes onThe End
