A day in the Lakes
Its a long time since I last did any greenlaning in the Lakes so thought I'd take the chance of a trip over yesterday.
Snow was settling on the A66 as I drove over which got my hopes up but by the time we were on the lanes it was just cold rain.
I thought I should start the day with a thorough equipment check, so I tested Prospeed's sliders - they work

After stopping a bit further up Breasthigh Road for the leader to have flat tyre changed I discovered that Rock Crawl mode is b****y useless on wet polished rocks that a defender has sprayed oil and diesel on! It assumes that you have grip and doesn't use the traction control to stop wheel slip. Mud and Ruts works much better. Still, the view from the top was cracking.

We decided to give Stile End a miss, it was too cold and wet to be standing around with Vaseline and a crowbar to get the D4 round the barn at Sadgill. So instead we went to find some more polished wet rock for the lead defender to spray with oil and diesel ready for me to follow.

We finished the day on Tilberthwaite Lane. Fantastic lane but very glad I'd not got by 20" wheels on

The tracks at about 6mins look tight...any damage sustained?

The sliders have quite a bit of paint missing, but otherwise I just got a scratch on a door where a gate blew closed on to it. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Did the super extended suspension mode get you off it?
Did you have the T/C turned off when you were struggling with rock crawl?

No, even super extended mode wasn't enough, the car's front end had pivoted to the right as the slider hit leaving the front wheels too far off the ground.
DSC was still on but the problem was that in rock crawl the car wasn't using the brakes to limit the wheel spin. I've had this before in rock crawl, I think it assumes that you are on dry grippy rock. When you're on wet greasy rock it lets a back and front wheel spin and you don't go anywhere. Snow is on the way tomorrow up here in the Lakes but I wouldn't dare attempt that route you took if it was 25c outside.

Do you use the lift rods and lock stops with the compomotives? And if so, do they stay on when you switch back to 20"s?

I was just making sure that the 110 behind didn't roll off down the hill if his brakes failed while we were stopped. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Depends on which tyres you fit. I put 265/60R18's on which don't need any modification. Bigger tyres would give more ground clearance but I'd have missed having full lock on those lanes MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Great photos and video Jon, looks like a good day, we were out in Weardale and Cumbria on Saturday but only made it as far over as Alston, we had wet snow blowing most of the day but it was only lying on the high ground
The golfball on the hill on the left is Great Dun Fell

We did a few of those lanes a couple of weeks ago. At the time I managed to avoid looking at what we were driving over .. but you've just reminded me
For anyone thinking about it ... 20" wheels & pirelli zero's are not recommended
At the end I was just pleased to have made it out in one piece. Seriously grizzly lanes Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

Wish I had put my name down for that trip, but glad I didn't as I would not have been that happy taking my D3 over the drain pipe.
Sue needs to spend some cash on that 90 lol.Andy.
