Well, here's my two penn'orth for what it's worth, probably not 2p.

Looks: great in the metal, very much in the modern LT design idiom, but equally, it looks 'big'. There was a D4 Graphite in the showroom next to it which I thought looked dated now (sorry).

Interior front: Great place to sit and be, everything felt classy and well made. Touchscreen still felt slow to me me (like the FFRR and Evoque) but was kinda OK, just not what you're used to from a £100 Android tablet... Passenger experience especially good.

Interior second row: Seats hard, uncomfortable, too low, inadequate footroom. Also the car I sat in had a 60/40 split seat, dunno if that's standard but very inflexible compared to the D3/D4. Windows smaller and high up so view out somewhat reduced. Seats do fold down flat though.

Interior third row. Seems OK for mid size teenagers no more. Access pretty tight.

Tailgate / flappy shelf thing: Massive, huge barn door of a tailgate. What an abortion. Hated it. OK so I know the split / no-split thing was a major topic but having seen what they've given us I'm totally on the side of the 'split'.

Load space: Allegedly bigger than the D3/D4 but not such a useful shape. Seems very pinched in at the top. Very deep so access to the foremost part is a stretch, no change there.

Elec folding seats: Thought this was no more than a stupid gimmick, unfortunately standard on the HSE and above. Slow, painful in fact. And amazingly, nothing to stop them being folded when there's a passenger using one. Can you imagine the fun the third row occupants might have. Have to walk round the car to get to the buttons. Compare that with the simplicity of simply flipping a seat down. Mad.

What else. Oh yes. The price. The one in the showroom was an HSE with some extras, it was £78k, with a 4 cylinder engine. It may drive OK but that sounds a lot to me.

Ordering one? Nope. I'm not.

It's got to the stage now if any one buys one of these d5's they are paying for a name, I have a d4 for towing a heavy caravan , should do me for the next 10 years then may be a mondeo until I can't drive any more. Rolling with laughter

I suppose it is just a name as it's all Range Rover underneath.

A lot of D4 owners are paying for the name and image. How many buy HSE Luxs and Landmarks and use them for anything other than driving in the city or dropping the kids off at private school?

The looks have changed but the prospective buyers haven't. Only the minority that use it for its intended purpose have lost out.

I don't tow but I have a play around in the rough and load it up with the dog but I don't have the time to use them off road like I used to.

I'm waiting on Merc to announce the prices of the E class All Terrain, I prefer the look of that to the V90 CC, it should hit showrooms the same time as the D5.

I like the D5, thought it was comfortable, felt solid and interior quality is a step up but I wasn't excited by it.

Saw a HSE Lux 2.0 Sd4 circa £70k yesterday (Conwy Land Rover), happened to be in 'my colour' Corris Grey so could see how mine would look if I went for one. Not convinced yet, think I'll hang on a while and have a test drive first, when they are available.

Driving position and cockpit not too bad, but had to move the seat back to get in and out comfortably (5'11"). Having said that, might not be that bad if the steering wheel had not been messed about with, I think it was a bit low but didn't manage to have an opportunity to adjust it to my liking.

As others have said, I felt that the second row seats feel a bit thin and a bit low; adequate leg room though, even with the seats forward.

I sat in the right hand side third row seat, there's a bit of a rounded 'bump' in the right hand side of the floor, so my right foot wasn't sitting comfortably. It was a bit of a climb to get into the third row, almost needed mountaineering equipment to get out! The door opening feels a long way away and you have to pull yourelf forward and the gap, even with the second row seats fully forward was a bit narrow I thought.

Exterior finish and panel gaps consistend and good, as was the cabin finish and quality generally, although I felt the rear (3rd row and boot) area quality and finish was not as good. Not sure all the switches in the boot for the seats and electric towbar etc look or feel all that 'premium'.

All in all, I felt it looked better 'in the flesh' that the pictures I've seen so far. It is a very bit beast, jury's still out for me as yet. As I said, I'll probably drive one first before I finall make my mind up.
As I don't do much off roading, the XC90 is still looking tempting!

The new VED rates from April are a bit of a stinger £800 1st year then £140 + £310 a year for the next 5 years!

We've received an invitation to see one, which should be interesting...

Have the dealers that people have been to so far put on any spread for people, if they're heading out in the evening? Faced with >100 mile round trip after work, it would be nice to know! Wink

I'm a bit surprised at the hateful reaction to the D5 especially as nobody even the press has actually driven it, but thinking about it, this is a D3/4 forum, and the new model obviously will drastically reduce the value of said cars.

Well, true but no reason not to like something else. I just bought an Evoque. That's not expected to be like the Disco, but we'll see how we get on with it before passing an opinion.

For me the issue with the D5 is that the Discovery 5 IS Land Rover's replacement for the D4. So if I don't like the D5, that's a Discovery owner that's going to go elsewhere.

My dealer had nibbles and drinks but I wouldn't go with an empty stomach though.

I've sat in a D5 & Test driven a RRS with view to buy.

The RRS seems dated compared to D5 & is more expensive like for like.

I also own a transit
