It's on standard rims, looking at buying D3 and wondering whether D2 255/55 18 will fit?

There's no such thing as a standard rim on a D3.
They were fitted with 17, 18 or 19 inch rims dependent on which year and model you bought.
Check your wheel size first.  Mods:

18" on D3 are 255/60 x 18 XL but speedometer will be out etc. with 222/55 (smaller) tyres. Speed & load rating needs checking as D3 is heavy.

as well as being slightly too small, 255/55x18 wont be weight rated high enough - they are usually 107, you need at least 111. 255/60x18's are usually rated at 112
