I recently bought the same rims with winter tyres for my Discovery 4 Graphite. Are this spacers also required for a D4 ? And could you explain why ?

On a D3 they are needed to clear the calliper as the offset is different, not sure on a D4 as I run 30mm spacers on mine, I'd imagine they are though Thumbs Up Altox GSM FBH controller thread

There's still a small gap between calliper and rim (4 mm ?) so if that was the reason for the spacer, there's no need for one on the D4.
And I find they look nice on a D4.
