What are the car panels made from? |
|
Hi,
On my TD5, the doors and panels were aluminium folded over a steel frame. Is this the same on the D3?
Thanks,

All steel on D3, except bonnet and tailgates that are aluminium, or an (undisclosed by LR) alloy of some sort.

Yes, I'm sure Andrew, I've been round it with a magnet, Why, is yours different? .........Unless mine has had pattern panels fitted from new.

If you look at dnd3's original reply, he did specify tailgate was not steel hence magnet flop.
tom Never assume.

Heine,
I did the same, but I bought 2. That's one for the Al tailgate and one for the Al caravan
BUT
They look great on the D3 rear pillars above the light clusters, one each side, sort of balanced and pretty
The caravan? Black marker pen
Andy 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

I wonder if the aluminium used is still the "Permabright" material that was used in the Series Land Rovers.
In 40 years time, all you will see is rusted out D3 carcasses with intact bonnets and tailgates.
