How should an FBH sound?

After a few hiccups, my FBH is starting via the Bell Remote, however I am unsure if it is running correctly.

It fires up, smokes and settles down as I guess one should expect. However it does not whir or chug constantly. It seems to run flat out for a few minutes, then slow down, and stop. The flashing green led on the remote box goes full on. Then it roars up again with more smoke, led flashing and the cycle repeats.

I cannot feel any significant temperature change on the FBH water inlet or outlet hoses either even after 10 to 15 minutes?

What should I expect?

It sounds like yours is trying to fire up and then going through the shut down cycle before trying again. When it's running it should have a constant noise to it after about the first couple of minutes. It probably needs a service as they do get blocked up with soot.

next time you fire it up, as it starts to do the burn cycle, try blowing in the air inlet, ive recovered quite a few 'failed' FBH units. Its actually trying to fire, which is positive. Thumbs Up

I've roared a slug of carb cleaner though it today, no difference to the 15 minute 3 times run stop scenario. However initial burn now longer and louder, exhaust getting hot. Still no heat in the water side though. Looks like a strip/clean is in order. I'll try a good blow first though!

Whilst defrosting the missus E39 touring this morning, I stuck my hand on the end of her Webasto exhaust to find that was stone cold too. Looks like I have two to strip down now. Only hers is in the depths of the wheel arch Crying or Very sad
