Changing tyres and wheels... risking drivetrain warranty.
Just picked up my new 6m old D4 SDV6. On my last D3, always ran GGATs. This one comes with 20” wheels. Option incl 255/55R20 on existing rims but increasing wheel diameter slightly or compomotive 18” rims w 255/60R18’s. According to my LR dealer in Cardiff either option would invalidate my warranty on the drivetrain in the event of a failure.
Me, I’m a simple guy and it does not seem unreasonable for the best off road vehicle to be fitted with decent off road tyres and not compromise the warranty. It is the whole point of an off road vehicle surely?
We are not talking about extreme mods here!
Someone at LR must have thought about this along the way.
Has anyone got into trouble with warranty issues or have a warranty preserving solution?
How about a contact at LR HQ who can provide definitive advice?
Thanks all.Disco4, BMW1200RT,

You won't get a definitive answer out of JLR but with any claim the onus would be on them to demonstrate how slightly changing wheel diameters evenly could ever damage a drivetrain. In mechanical terms it is akin to driving a fraction quicker or a fraction slower and that is covered by the warranty....Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

with my old D4 and brake shake issue, as I had 265/50x20's on Stormer rims they wanted to try the car on standard rims to see if it made any difference. The LR techie said he didnt see why, but LR tech support asked for it to be done, so I just dropped my winters with 255/55x19's back on. Made no difference so LR continued with warrenty work.

That is good news guys. Will consider the Compomotive option and perhaps keep my current wheels in safe store. Perhaps even put some winter tyres on 'em. Will decide next week.

The Nokian Rotiva AT or AT Plus may work for you as well as they are snow rated, but still all-season tire, not dedicated winter tires. They have a 265/60/18 XL version.
