FBH easy mod

Hi,

I am looking to put a feed to the Fbh so i can turn it on before i start the engine.

i have read about all the mods that are available but i am interested in putting a feed the red wire in pin number 2, i have done this but nothing happens. i am only interested in putting a simple on off switch, nothing fancy.

i need it sorting urgently as i am going in the mountains at high altitude and i want to preheat the engine as the glow plugs aren't working properly.

thanks in advance

I understand that you have read all about it, but what exactly are you feeding to pin 2?

England

Pin 2 is a communications port that "speaks" W-bus protocol. Shoving 12v up there is at best not going to work at worst blow the circuit board.

What makes you think that it would work given the plethora of after market kits to do this job and not one simple switch? Whistle

Indeed. Applying a live voltage to a databus connection was unwise. You need to read more about the FBH and how vehicle components talk to each other before attempting anything else.

I think if a "simple mod." was possible it would have been widely promulgated by now.

No.

Just what did you read about the FBH that made you think applying 12v to pin 2 - hopefully nothing on this site?

Shaun, I don't know what you've been reading but you appear to have misunderstood almost entirely.

You need to read this: http://media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/u...20v1-1.pdf and get your head around the fact you need to develop a WBus signal using an appropriate method and feed that into pin 2 on the Webasto.
Early ideas were to use an 1533 oval timer to develop the signal but there are now other methods and techniques that do the same thing. There's also a few different methods of switching your WBus on and these also need studying to decide which method is best for you.

It may seem complex but it is pretty simple once you realise the WBus issue. Wink

On the Thermo Top V it is technically possible, but I never tried on the D3/4, but it works on the Mate's Ford Galaxy with Thermo Top V

See the first picture

if you put +12V on pin 1 of the FFBH connector X1 the heater switch ON and it stays ON as long as there are 12V on pin (same as the ThermoTop C/P family).

Are you sure? I only say that because the timer also has what looks like a w-bus line to pin 2.
