Key fob not working and Engine wont start

Hello all,

New to the forum, but have been an avid reader for some time, hope you are all well.

About a month ago I replaced the Head Gaskets on my 07 TDv6, run about 1000km since then, no problems at all.

Today I decided to put a new battery on. Disconnected the battery, old one out new one on. Now the keyfob isnt working, does nothing at all, and the engine just turns over, not even trying to start/fire.

Im more of a mechanical man, so would appreciate any help, but to my mind somehow changing the battery has caused the key, and I presume Transponder to lose connection with the car.

Any thoughts on this and or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated? Justin

I’d disconnect the battery and leave it a few hours and reconnect.

If it’s cranking, I would think the imboliser was happy
Well on 2005 it is

Hello Pete, Thanks I will try that, but tried a hard reset and nothing, fob dead, and just turning over.

Is the new battery fully charged?

If it's giving enough current out then car will crank, but if voltage drops too low whilst doing that, the electrics won't be happy.

Another thing in a vehicle of that age is the earth straps ... try connecting battery -ve to engine and/or body using jump leads.

Hello Dean,
New battery is definitely fully charged, red immobiliser light is going out so don't think it's related now to the keyfob ...Will check crank position sensor tomorrow.
