20" tyres for D4 - road use only
Hi Chaps,
I've read loads of the older posts on here but can't draw any real conclusions. I've a D4 HSE (MY2012) and need to start considering new tyres. It's road use only (the closest it gets to off-road is campsites) - also I have a properly sorted Defender-90 for that sort of thing. I'm looking for quiet and efficient as much as anything. Interestingly I used to have a D3 on 19" and it was a nicer (smoother) ride as far as wheels/tyres go. Can't really afford to swap the rims as well as new tyres so looking for suggestions as to what to go for.

I'd use them myself, but I need the ability to deal with mud & snow from time to time.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄

Interesting suggestion! I've got Avons on another road-only motor (Lotus) and they are very good indeed. Coopers on the Defender too - and they are just up the road..!

redsix: I've run Avons, whenever they've made a viable alternative for my car or bike, for decades and never had any reason to regret it. Their old ZZ3 performance tyres were great in the wet (I must have got through two dozen of those).
They've not had anything that's competitive for the likes of current Discos for years and have had conversations with them while it's been in development and then, when it came out, it's strictly as a road tyre But, the official test results are only matched by Cooper (no surprise), they are excellent value for money and they're designed, tested and built here in the UK.
Unfortunately, until they build at least a M+S tyre, I'll need to stick with the Pirelli's.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
