Do 3rd party warranties pay out for crank failures?
As the subject says really.
Recently purchased a 2012 HSE on 35,000 miles. Crank snapped at 37,000 miles on the motorway which was pretty bloody hairy. I didn't take out a Warranty Wise/Warranty Direct/AA policy (despite getting quotes) when I bought it as I thought I'd see how I got on...
The £15000 estimate from LR for the new engine was initially vomit inducing, but after some jiggery pokery, begging, pleading and crying, LR have offered to stump up 80% of the bill, which makes things easier to swallow.
I'll be swiftly picking up a warranty policy on the car incase anything else is about to let go in an expensive manner - lesson learnt there - but I was curious if anyone's had a warranty company pay out the full £15,000 for a new engine due to a crank failure?
I was wondering, hypothetically, if I had had a 3rd party warranty, whether the warranty company would try and wriggle out of paying somehow, whilst LR would say, 'Well, you've got a warranty with AA, get them to pay', leaving me shafted.
Warranty Direct still the best policy going?

Warranty Direct seem to be the best one around, if I were you I'd be asking them outright if they'd pay for crankshaft failure!
I'm interested to know more about LR paying 80% though, did you buy the car from a LR dealer? did it have a warranty with LR? what was the reason they agreed to pay 80%? - I recently had crankshaft failure on my 2010 and the most I could get them to cough up was 20%, no matter how hard I tried!

Warranty Direct do cover it in the terms and when I was purchasing their product they used it as an example of one of the largest payout's they'd recently made. It's the primary reason I've bought a warrantyMark

I think they will pay out unto the value of the vehicle as long as its a covered item.
