If you don't need 7 seats but want a big, comfy, luxury 4x4 a FFRR fits the bill. It gets proper engines too. Or RRS if you want to spend only D5 money.

I don't need 7 seats but want a big, comfy, luxury 4x4 with a large square boot space so the FFRR fails. However my D4 Landmark does fit the bill. Am hoping that in several years when I come to change the D4 that a full fat defender will fit the bill then....

Fair enough Canburne. Hopefully the "All New Defender" will meet your needs. I'm interested to see it too - if it's comfortable to drive long distances then I might be in the market for one too.

I'm hoping my RRS will last long enough to be able to choose whether the new Defender is suitable. I fear it may not last that long... Crying or Very sad

Is it Land Rover that gets these people to wright this stuff?

I don't mind them sucking up to Land Rover and saying the new Discovery is the best thing since sliced bread, but to keep slating the D4 like it was invented when Dinosaurs were still walking the earth is just pointless, What Car did the same.

It would cost me nearly £30k to 'upgrade' to a similar spec D5 from my 16 month old D4 with 12k on the clock. If that car drives £30k better than my D4 I'll eat my hat!!

I will be replacing my D5 in 3 years, if it's as good as I think will be another if not maybe the Defender, time will tell.

PS I love my D4

LOL - love the bit "First Impressions Inside"

Hmmm - my kids would trash it! Even I would be scare to get in it with an interior that white.

Kit Kat camo finger stripes would go nicely Very Happy

Having just read it again Mr Aucock (The reviewer) needs to be careful with a name like that.

Either Land Rover have given him a freebie D5 to keep or he is in great need of some oxygen after what can only be described as a serious session of 'Brown Nosing'

At one point, apparently the D1 set the bench mark for 'car like' 4x4's, whilst the D4 had lost it's way Shocked

Whilst the D5 has once again set the record straight!!

Please, just review the car properly, I just can't take any of that bull seriously.

That Marketing Script

is a load of BallCocks
of course the replacement vehicle would be different - but different .
doesn't have to be or need to be a retrograde step.

I (i.e. me) doesn't give a damn about 7 seats...but I do need in my SUV cargo space that is realistic & easy to access.

.....what LR will learn the hard way is that if they dont differentiate models in terms of size, features & costs
i.e. a range of sizes, a range of features & a range of costs - they will fail to compete with the competition, specifically lose sales...sales means revenue & profit.
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

I think the advertorial is reasonable in its aims. It points out, several times, that the D5 is aimed at competing with the Q7 and XC90, not traditional 4x4s. This is the reason they've made it family- rather than user-friendly, if that makes sense.

One thing none of the reviews mentions is the increase in turning circle. This makes it worse off road - one of the great things about the D3/4/RRS is the tight turning circle. You can get a big vehicle around in one go where Deafeners are having a couple of goes at it.
