Just been to watch Man United play West Brom at Old Trafford, and as usual it was a real bun-fight to get out of the car park. The car started fine and was normal at crawling speed, and we were crawling for about 1/2 hour before we got to the A56. Once there, I attempted to open it up to accelerate, and Nothing! The engine revved but no power. It seemed like it was stuck in 2nd gear but was not pulling at all.
I stopped in a layby and it idled fine, it pulled off ok, but as soon as any serious speed was requested - nothing.
I again stopped, switched her off, and re-started, this time she was OK. Drove home normally from there.
Anyone else had this?. I've 11500 miles on now and not had this before. There were no warning lights or anything to indicate a fault, it just would not go.

It happened twice. Complete power loss, the car would not rev above 2000 rtm. I switched the engine off and restarted normally. Discovery TDV6 HSE 01/2005

Gareth, when I picked mine up from the dealer it did this after it had been idling. They subsequently had 2 others do it. The dealer called me (unprompted) to tell me this had happened and it was some power saving feature. The microsoft restart clears it! DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I had similar happenings on the Td5
1st was over heating due to mystery coolant loss
2nd was a defective fuel pump - you could rev to 3000rpm and no higher and below 3000rpm there was no real guts just hearse like drive.

I've had the same when pulling away after using the cabin pre-heat (using the normal tricks) - the cabin pre-heat light had stayed on after I had started the ignition though, so this was a clue that something was going to be wrong. Going from "D" to "N" and then back to "D" on the auto box sorted it though.

Keith, your describing an engine in safe mode, often engines will allow a limp home mode. My wife's Frontera did it after a change in battery - not funny with a caravan on the back, only 2000 revs and a long motorway journey  DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

To be fair on Microsoft, the safe mode with the electronically controlled engines and gear boxes of today is a safety feature that nobidy would want to be without. It is even a help with Windows when the hard disk gets a bit scrambled.
I have had two instances in the past 7 years with Td5s
- one split radiator hose at full motorway speed pulling a 1.5T camping trailer, and
- one detached gearbox oil pipe hose ditto.
In both cases the engine management system intervened and no damage was done.
It is things like this that really put the traditionalists who want beam axles, leaf springs, manual only gearbox and carburettors with manual fuel pumps in their place. Those cavemen on discoweg.org and a number of motoring journalists do not seem to want to focus on the fact that the new Disco is a much better vehicel than the older models.
I recollect the bagging that the Disco's traction control received when it was first released; now that the rest of the pack uses it all you hear is praise (of the systems in the johnny come lately vehicles).

I fully agree with you Keith, it's horses for courses, if you want a car you can do all the oily bits on and enjoy that then buy a S3, if however that isn't what floats your boat then buy the latest technology and enjoy it. Sure we get the odd glitch, but I am still over the moon with mine and it gets better. Please don't get the impression that I am knocking the car, I am VERY impressed with it. I also have an oily car to play with if I am in the mood, so maybe I am lucky to have the best of both worlds!.
But lets face it, if you are designing a high tech computer with wheels, it would not have taken much more effort to put a light on if it went into fail safe.
Just done a green lane in the D3 on the way home from a job in Sheffield, and it was very impressive. Its a lane that I normally do in my s2a, and usually I get hung up on a rock or two and cross axled. No such problems for the D3 through, sailed through in absolute comfort!

18 months ago, I upgraded to Girlfriend 1.0 from DrinkingMates 4.2, which I
had used for years without any trouble. However, there are apparently
conflicts between these two products and the only solution was to try and
run Girlfriend 1.0 with the sound turned off. To make matters worse,
Girlfriend 1.0 is incompatible with several other applications, such as
LadsNightOut 3.1, Football 4.5, and Playboy 6.9. Successive versions of
GirlFriend proved no better. I tried a shareware program, Slapper 2.1, but it
had many bugs and left a virus in my system, forcing me to shut down
completely for several weeks.
Eventually, I tried to run GirlFriend 1.2 and Girlfriend 1.0 at the same
time, only to discover that when these two systems detected each other
they caused severe damage to my hardware. I eventually upgraded to Fiancée 1.0, only to discover that this product soon had to be upgraded further to Wife 1.0. While Wife 1.0 tends to use up all my available resources, it does come bundled with FreeSexPlus and Cleanhouse2005. Shortly after this  upgrade, however, I found that Wife 1.0 could be very unstable and costly to run. Any mistakes I made were automatically stored in Wife 1.0's memory and could not be deleted. They then resurfaced months later when I had forgotten about them. Wife 1.0 also has an automatic Diary, Explorer and E-mail filter, and can, without warning, launch TurboStrop and Whinge.
These latter products have no Help files, and I have to try to guess what
the problem is. Additional problems are that Wife 1.0 needs updating
regularly,requiring ShoeShop Browser for new attachments and Hairstyle
Express which needs to be installed every other week. Also, when Wife 1.0
attaches itself to my Disco 3 hard drive, it often crashes. Wife 1.0 also
comes with an irritating pop-up called MotherInLaw, which can't be turned
off. Recently I've been tempted to install Mistress 2005, but there could be
problems. A friend of mine has alerted me to the fact that if Wife 1.0
detects Mistress 2003, it tends to delete all of your Money before
uninstalling itself.

Smarticus, I upgraded to Wife 2.00 because I found Wife 1.00 unstable and highly unpredicatable, it was a wise move on my part as Wife 2.00 has turned out to be excellent software. 2004 Discovery 3 - gone
