Is anyone going to the next meeting of the RRC NSW which will be held at Davis Performance Landy.
I understand that Bruce is going to demonstrate a control unit that enables the driver to adjust the height of the vehicle both late model RR and Disco's. Would be interesting to see what they have come up with.
Not yours is it Graeme??

I went along to the RRC meeting at Davis Performance Land Rovers last night and had a chat with Bruce Davis after the meeting.
Suspension height adjustment unit is an electronic box with an activation switch on the dash. No change is required to the standard rods.
We also discussed some wheel alignment issues and his modified alignment equipment to deal with LR idiosyncrasies. I have a paper on the height unit and some photos of his wheel alignment equipment.
PDF file on height adjuster and pics on alignment posted to my gallery.

Johnsey,
Not sure when, but he was going to show me a fitted unit so at least the prototype exists.
Finished up not seeing it as we got distracted by other discussions on the wheel alignment issues.

Barry - did they mention when it will be available?
Yep, its was mine and I was there.
I had spent several hours there during the day working on stopping the RRS from dropping when a door was opened after having let it stand for 20 mins and thought I had it licked without resorting to having it permanantly alive. However it dropped again when a door was opened just prior to the demo. Due to the RRS compressor getting overheated very quickly, my D4 was used as the demo vehicle, performing as required. Late in the evening the trial wiring loom was modified to use the air suspension main 12v supply and a module already fitted with a 5v regulator was installed and calibrated, all in about 15 minutes. That is how the kit will be supplied so it should put and end to the dropping. The wiring loom order has been re-activated and the UK manufacturer will be advised tonight. As soon as I hear the expected delivery of the looms I will advise here. Meanwhile I will continue building the modules.
At the request of the RRS owner I have added a 3rd configuration option. Previously there was +30/+50mm and -20/+50mm but now there's -20/+30mm too, selectable by slightly different configuration procedures. I had wanted this option myself but thought it couldn't be done until I had a proper think and look. I have to look after prospective customers and keen advocates!

A couple of weeks ago the loom manufacturer advised that it would normally take 2-3 weeks to produce a batch of 50 sets but longer for the 1st batch if there were any changes to the original sample, and there are some. Detailed marketting discussions with BD are yet to occur. His pricing estimates revealed at the RRC meeting were for supply and fit and based upon a brief what-if discussion a few weeks ago and my price offer to him has since been reduced.

barryp wrote: some photos of his wheel alignment equipment. my undestanding of the wheel alignment is that it must have the weight on the wheels. It states that the tank must be full with no other heavy objects in the car and put into geometry set mode with correct tyre pressures. The wheels must be removed and bolts slackened (just enough) prior to the alignment to allow the adjustments to be made whilst the wheel is in place.

Hi Catweasel,
I note that you say that the procedure is to loosen the adjusting bolts so that it can be aligned with the rear wheel on and presumably the wheel is removed to access and tighten the rear suspension Camber and caster adjusting mechanism. This is where Bruce believes the problem is with that procedure. Not sure about the weight issue but if you look at the pictures I think that the weight is on the stand linked to the hub?
My understanding from the discussion is that this is for camber and caster and not toe in as the toe in adjuster is easily accessible.
Bruce's fancy bit of kit allows the wheel to be removed but the position of the hub is still tracked by the alignment mechanism. This allows an accurate setting with easy access to the adjusting mechanism for final tightening without having to remove the fitted wheel. (Having to remove the wheel after adjustment can upset the adjustment prior to final tightening, without his add on equipment) His view was that the standard procedure is hit and miss as the setting can change due to removal of the rear wheels prior to final tightening.
I am not an alignment expert but simply passing on Bruce's comments as I understood them.
