Disappointingly Gutless
Good evening. Just bought my first disco, a 56 plate with 107K on it to potentially replace my D40 chassis f....d Navara. The car has a very good service history up to 83K and no warning lights on apart from the orange brake one as the EPB has issues.
Sadly my first impressions are not good, its totally gutless under 2500rpm when the turbo kicks in though even then the Navara is more responsive. It feels like I'm towing several tons with virtually no throttle response meaning slow acceleration and changing down to 4th for motorway overtaking.
Ive read a bit on here about egr issues and wonder if that could explain such a drastic failure in performance ? The vin is a 7A so I gather blanking isn't that simple ! My other thought is perhaps a fuel issue as I bought it from an auction and as with all such cars it was sucking its last fumes as I got to the nearest petrol station.
I'm pretty able at weilding the spanners so hoping for a little advice and experience to try for a diy solution.
Thanks

If nonblack smoke, the egr failure is favourite.
If black smoke, then split in intercooler or hose.

I've never driven a Navara, but I found the D3 is quite stately in terms of acceleration when I first drove it. However I am used to it now and it tows fine. It's a Land Rover after all!Simon.

maybe the turbo actuator / VVT needs some oiling (thru the wheel arch)

Bought blind and with no diagnostics - we could be guessing all day as there are so many possibilities.
As Mike says, the starting point has to be electronic diagnostics.

Yes really Im genuinely surprised you didnt know that, or did you assume auctions only sold goods to private people?
Best bit is the same dealers punt out their troublesome cars via the same auctions
Car sales guy down the road from me buys all his cars at auctions, some very nice clean cars as well, he also buy cars for private people on commission from the same auctions, weirdly no land rover products

Thanks for the comments.
I got my scanner back today and found a couple of egr related faults;
P0490 EGR control circuit A high, P045C EGR B control circuit low
What would the recommended route be from here .... blank them and add the patch , or renew both EGRs ? From what I can find there isn't a huge difference in cost.
If it makes any difference, a lot of my car uaeage is short <3 mile runs. Engine is a non DPF.

It would surprise me to find my dealer buying from auction. I don't think it would be their scene.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Independent dealers have to buy from auction, the Land Rover main dealers are no longer allowed to pass what they won't or can't sell themselves onto local independents direct like they used to do all such stock has to go to auction that's why some good independents no longer sell Motors because they can no longer have traceability of what would have been known to them Cars.
