Bad news, good news 4 wheel alignment
Stuck for options, I booked the old girl into kwikfit for a four wheel alignment as I had special programmes not available after fitting new tie rods etc.
The technician hooked it up to the Hunter machine, which we could view on the screen in the waiting room, managed to get as far as Landowner, in the menu and seemed stuck on model, head pops round the door and he says it a an ordinary Discovery or a Discovery Sport Discovery 3 says I!
Two minutes later he is back again, it says we have to put it into tight tolerance mode, we cant do that! Really says I, good job I can, IID tool to the rescue.
Back in the waiting room and he now seems to be making progress with various bits coming up on the screen then the wife says he has a big flame, yes this guy is underneath the D3 with a rather large fire within inches of the LPG tank Thought i had better point it out to him, but by the time I get out there he has switched it off, he thought it was covered spare wheel!! Anyway turns out the rear camber bolts are seized and he cant free them off Not good.
On to the front and that seems to go well till he finds the nearside tie rod wont adjust enough, and on inspection he is correct it is wound fully into the the tie rod end. At this point he says there is not a lot more he can do. So he drops the hoist removes the Hunter gear, I take her out of TTM and set the steering angle sensor. He then says you can take it off the ramps and go, no charge (been on the hoist a good hour), any problems bring it back.
Well that's the bad news, the good news apart from no charge, she didn't light up like a Christmas tree. he may not have got it fully within tolerance but its close enough not to cause the special programmes an issue.
Still need to sort out the issues with the camber bolts and the nearside tie rod, but with the new parts and the adjustments managed she feels so much tighter on the road.==================================

Hi,
the alignment I had done last week was also a case of gauges on gauges off and back on again
as the rear camber bolts where tight
they had to take the wheels off and breaker bar on to slacken them off enough to move them
then
wheels back on and get the thing set
then
wheels back off again to tighten everything back up again
I had set the length of the rear panhard/tie bar to the same as before removing the old arm so could be why I had no warning lights
