Diagnostics and power supply

I have (a friend who uses) some moody software (IDS/SDD) that runs on an old laptop to reset the service interval on my d3. It's also been used to do a few other things like DLR's (successfully). These things need a constant battery voltage about 12V (cant quite remember exactly what, but the software complains without). Attaching a DC power supply (30A) to maintain this whilst re-programming works fine.

The question....

Do users of the nifty sounding IID BT have to supplement the battery when re-configuring their cars. If not why not?

I use jump leads to connect to the battery of another (running) car.

IID monitors voltage and will not start a task if it's too low, for short use, 5-10 mins a good battery will be fine with IID, but for longer ECU flashing work, a seperate supply is advisable, I have a Ctek 25a for this, as do most sponsors Thumbs Up

Thanks beanie. A regulated power supply is quite an additional expense that I haven't seen mentioned on here before when people buy and sell IID. Wondered if ii was missing a trick Question
Are those the one for £250 or are there cheaper CTEK models?

You only need the additional power supply if you are doing major update/alteration and as said, for that you can use jump leads and another car or good battery.

You don't need a power supply for general checks or suspension calibration etc.
