Turbo Access Mod
I have the engine out of my D3 2.7 and while it's there I want to make access easier for the turbo replacement.
I have poured thru lots of threads and wanted to determine what the current recommended best practice is. A few of the ideas were:
1. Drill out the threads to 8mm and insert 2x flange bolts (I assume not replacing the more difficult to access one). I assume you just let the threads deform? A bit scary.
2. Grind off the heads of the studs flush with the nut.
3. Remove the difficult to access (inside one) - which doesn't help the clearance upon removal
Thanks

It's just a case of removing the studs and fitting 3 bolts

Pete love the simplicity . I have been guilty of overthinking things in the past... like why don't they do that in the factory. I guess the stud&nut gives you 2 options in case of a seizure....

The top 2 need to be nut + bolt. I'd love to see someone struggle to remove them as bolts only
The lower one one the inside is actually easier to access as the original stud + nut, and helps aid reassembly, but can easily be replaced with a bolt only My D3 Build Thread

Bolts 35mm long (30's fit flush, 40's shown below)
Had to grind a little off the flange to fit
Fitted it with turbo still on the motor - needed long(ish) drill bits - reemed with 7.5 then with 8mm
