Just bought D3: tips for it's first service? |
|
Hello there,
I've just got a new Discovery 3 (2006, SE, 119K miles). We'll use it mainly for towing and we'll get it serviced at our reliable local garage. Before buying, we got Bob (our mechanic) to check it over to rule out anything immediately worrying, so now taking it back for a proper service.
Bob said he hasn't serviced LRs for a few years (although he's always been completely reliable with all our cars over the years); so we wondered if there was anything you'd recommend he particularly checks or anything you'd suggest we definitely get upgraded/improved for reliability. The service book history looks patchy on paper, but possibly better in practice judging by work invoices that came with the car. Big things like the timing belts have been done, and no doubt Bob will check any other due/overdue items.
Are there any things you'd particularly recommend to aid towing reliability or performance? We're towing the caravan to Slovenia in the summer and after a succession of Japanese cars that have never let us down, we're a bit nervous about the reliability reports. Needless to say, we'll be getting top notch breakdown insurance...
Thanks all

Oh, I don't know - I'll check invoices, but if it's not obvious it's been done, something to get sorted? When you say 'done', does that mean: have a new one fitted (I know - I know nothing about cars and hubby knows even less...)?
Is the tow ball really in peril? We've had the detachable one on our Outlander for ages and no one's made off with it. Lucky or a symptom of Discos being more common/steal worthy?
