He goaded me into saying I'd found TalkTalk reliable the other day and since then, we'd been getting odd timeouts on websites, mainly on our phones.
Anyway, did a bit of digging and it looks like the TalkTalk DNS server I was aiming at was a bit slow responding.
Edited my local DNS server to have an additional Forwarder, used Google in this case, and moved it higher in the list and all is good.
Strangely, the problem wasn't evident on the PCs or laptops but it totally crippled the PS4 to the point it couldn't download games.
with the change, PCs are still showing 66Mbps download speed but the PS4 has gone up from 4.5Mbps or lower to 64Mbps.
Wondering now if TT have done a change and changed their primary DNS server IP ?.

Would love some of that, my 4g service with Smarty has taken a major dive over the last few weeks. Thinking of changing to Lebara to get Vodafone network here, will give it a try anyway.
Could be quite a few knock on issues as a result, but that is one hell of a DoS attack.

What is this mystical mega speed “it” and how do I achieve this without having to sell my body?
Now here's the funny thing. Because your local exchange already had reasonable speeds for those living within a few miles of the town, it didn't qualify for upgrading.
It's been a bit of a game of leapfrog, where exchanges and connected communities with next to no service ended up getting bumped up to this kind of connection, while the areas with acceptable speeds got nothing in the last round of upgrades. In our case we demonstrated that there was a large enough demand for business and residential in our village to warrant us being considered as a case for upgrade, while the larger village with the exchange that serves us was left at 67Mbps (we're 8 miles from the exchange on very old cable and so couldn't access the higher speed services).
It helped that some in our community were being left behind or excluded due to poor service - those with school age children and single elderly in particular.
Granted, the speeds I now have are way ott for my needs, but BT bundle the bits I do want with the faster packages, so in for a penny....I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

We are going through the same process at the moment. The Welsh government gives 'vouchers' and when enough people have signed-up the work starts. The supplier is ready to go but out of a catchment area of 2,000 people only 88 households have signed-up - below the threshold of one hundred. The fibre-optic already goes past our house and is tied in a big loop to a telegraph pole up the road.

Dean, I'm so sorry I've jinxed you.
As of yesterday, and my latest chapter in the battle, my 24 month contract with TT is cancelled at no cost/no fee and a new BT connection/router is en route to be installed.
My issues were actually noting to do with TT kit 'as such' - there is an intermittent fault somewhere between the house and the cabinet (300m away). The three openreach guys so far that have been digging up my road in increasingly distant places agree with this. They will find it eventually. But I have to raise a CEO complaint for TalkTalk to even think about calling out BTOR. When they can't find anything as it's intermittent, they won't carry on, I have to go back to square 1. And I have to start another CEO complaint to get a case handler who seem authorised to escalate to BTOR. And this all takes time and patience that is not worth the £21.99 a month 'cheap' internet.
