Tyres changed and now a rattle from the back end
Hi
Just had all 4 tyres changed and have inherited a rattle that was not there before when I go over rough (i.e. bumpy road surface not off road) roads.
Seems to happen most when there is enough surface defect to make the car bounce a bit.
I have looked at the obvious...
1) wheels on securely
2) locking wheel nut not just flung in a random pocket
To be frank that's as far as I have got.
Any more technical thoughts out there. I understand the roll bar bushings get compressed over time and maybe jacking has just freed them a little too much?.?
I also get some steering wheel judder when 'in a hurry' on the motorway; again any thoughts??
Thanks in advance.

Hi L319
It was just the 4 main tyres that were changed not the spare... Wish have a check that they didn't loosen it to have a look.

Hi all
Another bit to this that I have noticed is that the rear end rattle going over a bump is also accompanied by a sharp tap on the gear lever (auto box). It feels as if someone is hitting the gearbox with a hammer just a single tap - a very strange sensation!
Any ideas??
Thanks

Hi again
Now have had:
Tyres all changed
Wheels balanced
Wheels rebalanced
New discs and pads all round
Have emptied EVERYTHING from inside pockets etc Inc jack and tools
Have checked that spare wheel is tight
Still have bad rattling when going over bumpy ground and steering judder at 70+ mph.
Any thoughts???
Thanks

From what I've learnt it could be a number of things?
Wheel bearings, Diffs, upper and lower arms? Possibly not related to the tyres but just decided to show its face now.

Drop links?
As for the judder, my wheel bearings had very little play but I still swapped them and the judder went away.
Also worn track rods can give these symptoms.De-Tango
V8 Brakes
EGRs blanked
Running boards
3 flash indicators and clock on dash
Blingy grille...

Are there any tutorials for how to diagnose these types of things or is it simply swap and see?? Also are they generally diy (for someone that knows a spanner from a screwdriver) type jobs or take it to a garage type job?
Thanks
