Speedometer marking/units
Hi guys - HNY!
I’m thinking to buy a D4 to replace the D3 with the option of buying RHD in UK. One of the things necessary to reregister is that the speedo needs km/h markings (apparently). It appears from looking at pictures online that the UK vehicles have mph only and no second scale in red or similar.
Is that the case or are my eyes combined with poor photos letting me down?
Thanks for any feedback from D4 owners TDV6 HSE AUTO

No kms on mine but I can change the digital bit to Km/hr, whilst leaving everything the same, imperial.

Though doesn't help with the marked km/hrs though.

Thanks DSL! I’m not sure if the fixed markings need to be present or if the digital indication is sufficient... Best I check.
Thanks for the quick reply and clear pics TDV6 HSE AUTO

Here in Ireland there was a company swapping the dials from mph to KMph as so many cars come in here from the UK. I presume they were swapping the physical dial or sticking a new dial onto the current one.

Hmmm thanks Erea. I would imagine a permanent scale would most likely be required, although my Clio for example only has a digital speedo, so will check.TDV6 HSE AUTO

Just to clarify they were doing a proper job when swapping out the existing dial. I saw one they did on a Mondeo and it was a genuine Ford part they used. Lighting up perfectly at night etc. But I guess it depends on the make of car as to how much they have to take apart to get to the dial.

The dial is just a printed disc that can be swapped out if you strip the current dash down. Don’t believe that the dials can be bought separately from Landrover, so I would look for a second hand KPH dash on one of the auction sites - it doesn’t need to be in working order.
Take care to position the needle against the dial correctly when you put it back together as this will affect the accuracy if it is not correctly at zero.

My understanding is that it’s a legal requirement that a car should have a display in both mph and kph. When the car is capable of providing an electronic kph readout, it is no longer a requirement to have a physical kph addition to the conventional speedo.
On this basis I’d be interested to see if the electronic readout is sufficient where you are.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
