*More detail* Really faint noise-could be tough to track. |
|
This I reckon will be a difficult one!
Just driven to France, and noticed a tiny tiny noise.
Imagine a REALLY light noise, sounds like something rubbing. Now, if I turn right, even lightly, it goes. SO when on the M way (or any other road), waggle the wheel left and right and its gone. Soon as I straighten up, its back. And its no worse if I turn left. I thought it was a dangling brake pad wear sensor cable, but fixed that and its still there.
Even stranger, its NOT speed related. Doesn't matter how fast I go, noise the same, so I dont think wheel bearing.
My wife cant even hear it, that's how slight it is!

While I was out I was really listening to what the noise is.
It sounds like the very beginning of a wheel bearing, VERY VERY faint when going straight, above 40, windows up, but I cant hear it windows down!. When I was going in tunnels and alongside walls, I wound the windows down and couldn't hear it-I would have expected to hear it worse in that situation if it was wheel bearings?
If I waggle wheel fast side to side it seems to go, but makes no difference to the sound if I am turning left or right, again I would expect a bearing to be worse one way or the other. It also makes no difference if on or off the power, in neutral or any particular gear.
Even stranger, the noise is the noise-whether at 40 or 80, its the same, so no really speed related!
Its only started since I had the lower arms fitted and new calipers and brakes, Its not loud, really quiet! Most people including my wife cant hear it!
