Poor TV signal in caravan - recommended aerial/sat dish?

We currently have a fixed status aerial which gives poor ( or no) reception on most caravan sites in the North West of the UK.
Do we go with ( or need) a satelite dish?
Or do we look at an aerial mast mounted on the tow hitch? - which appears to be fiddly to get right in terms of reception.
I am always in awe of the caravans with a self seeking satelite dish but fear they will be rather expensive.

What do you experienced caravanners recommend?

Had and still have a Papsa self seeking dish, older version of this one,

Worked well but haven't used it for three years now, current van has the Status 530 aerial and has never let us down, think it's been superceded by the 580 now.

I must admit we do that as much as watch the box, usually with a G&T though, a nice long cold one.

Check that the signal amplifier is working, I had similar problems and found the amplifier was actually blocking the signal, I could get better reception by bypassing it!

We struggled for years with dodgy reception and fiddling with everything to try to get it to work. Finally found out to be the coax socket at the back of the (cheap 240/12v) TV; the centre pin wasn't quite protruding enough to make a good connection with the plug on the cable. That TV now binned and purchased a normal 22" model from Currys. So much better, LED, viewable from all angles etc

That sounds like an obvious starting point !!
TV is a few years old - we'll replace that and see how we go before we moan anymore about the status aerial Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

If it is a Status ariel then they are pretty good at helping sort issues. They are based in Nottingham.

We also have a cheap sat dish and reciever I brought from Lidl about 6 years or so ago to use in france. It all packs up into its own case and has worked pretty well. I think it was 49 quid.

Which Staus Ariel do you have, if it's the old flying saucer you may struggle with the digital signal.
If it's the later directional try adjusting the gain, to much is as bad as not enough.
