I have noticed a couple of times recently that when I click on a topic from the index of New Posts, I seem to get an advert which is trying to sell me something. Has anyone else experienced this or do I need to get my computer checked out?

You've picked up some malware from somewhere..... possibly one of those sites you've visited with the scantily clad ladies on it. 
Try https://www.malwarebytes.com/ or uninstalling and re-installing your browser after clearing your cache & browser history. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

I already use Malwarebytes - although only the free version, may need to pay some cash for the advanced version.
