Discovery 2017 twin turbo ingenium
Took my 2014 disco SDV6 SE Tec in for servicing, I was loaned a 2017 Discovery HSE with 2000cc Twin Trubo ingenium 230bhp…..7000miles on clock. Here are my thoughts…..
MPG. Heavy commuting:- 24.5mpg! (This is about the same as my SDV6!). Light commuting easier run 29 mpg (very slightly better than my SDV6). Reporting an overall average over 7000 miles 31 mpg. I was very disappointed at this.
The engine – was on the grough side ….(compared to V6 and my wifes evoque) engine appeared to be working quite hard – however impressively if you gritted your teeth its outright performance is close to SDV6. I do not think the SD4 engine in the Discovery would be that pleasant when towing! The curious discovery 4 hesitation on throttle response is still there on the new Discovery.
The chassis is good – poise handling much improved over Disco 4 chassis (no surprises here).
Wind noise cruising is a big improvement – quiet refined and I would imagine real world 37mpg+ would be easily achievable when purely cruising at around 65-75mph.
Interior good – love the big nav screen. However, interior has lost some of that rugged ‘Tonka’ charm that the Disco 4’s have.
The sound quality of HSE Meridian system did not seem improved over my D4 Meridian 825w system …..
New Discovery also feels enormous ….. even compared to D4.MY 2015 Se tec SDV6 auto
Extras added:
Electronic diff
Meridian 17 speaker audio
Cool cubby box
Full size spare
Tow bar
Surround Cameras
Black rear tints
Cosmic grey interior panels

is this engine the sd 4?
this is why the D5 will be a dud in Aus with gutless, overpriced 4 cylinder engines.
We like to tow large caravans etc, over 900-1000 kms a day.[/s]

3.0 TD6 is the better option and when I bought mine it was only £1.5k more. No brainier really. On long runs it will happily sit at 37-40 mpg, on a trip to London I managed 620 miles on a tank.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Usable fuel in a D5:- (litres)
2.0L diesel = 77
3.0L diesel = 85
3.0L petrol = 90In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
