OEM D4 Sidesteps or cheaper equivalent
Guys,
Please help. I am chopping in my D3 HSE purchased from Yeovil back in 2008. With 123k on the clock it has been brilliant but the time has come to replace it. I have a 2015 Black HSE on order, arriving in 2 weeks. I want some side steps. Do I go for the LR original side steps at £915 fitted or a set available from Brit part. Same Part number - VPLAP0035 but sold for £190 and look identical.
Has anyone any experience of such accessories and is there any real difference?Tommo

I paid £110 for mine from a well known auction site, and couldn't be happier, they're great.

I've always fitted genuine parts/accessories to all my LRs but over the past few years the prices have gone through the roof. The last time I got side steps fitted by an LR it was 2007 and the price was less than £600 fitted.
If I can't get them at a good price from Duckworths or eBay then it will be britpart that will be going on.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Ebay copies at ~£110 and fit yourself, knowing they like the genuine will only last 5 to 8 years before they've rotted to far to use, and whilst your fitting them you can paint the undersides, nooks and crannies with a decent paint so they might last even longer. Remembering the sill's also need extra paint protection as the stones and water blast that come though the holes in the sill covers for the supports leads to localised rust on the sills, BTDT.

I've just bought a set for £100 off eBay, fitted fine. The only thing i did use was my own bolts as I found some of the heads a bit wonky.2014 D4 XS

Aftermarket are fine, and mine fitted onto the same fitting brackets ( that were not rusty).
Once fitted, paint or spray the underside in Waxoyl yearly, and that'll keep them protected to last longer.2011 MY D4 HSE

Yes there is a difference, a big difference, PRICE. I have genuine on mine fitted by previous owner 3 years old and I have just spent 2 days repainting them with decent paint as they where red rust underneath.
Buy aftermarket and paint them with Hammerite paint underneath before fitting or under seal immediately after fitting as they do get bombarded from the front tyres It can when others can't,

It goes where others don't.
