Motoring to Costa Brava

Planning a few U.K. to Alicante road trips via the tunnel,

Apart from the usual prep (tyre pressure, up to date service, etc) any sound advise or gotcha's to consider?

Thanks in advance......

Do check all your papers, have motoring kit in order triangles etc. obey the law of the land to avoid ridiculous on the spot fines. Just sensible behaviour and you will be ok

Take notice of radar signs on French motorways - there will be a camera sometime after the sign. The cameras are usually grey pillars either in the centre reservation or on the side. The French will chase you for the fine.

At Stop signs on junctions make sure you stop. Its become a past time for the local Gendarme to sit and wait to catch you out and hand you a very large fine - I got caught this summer! Also get a toll pass for the motorway, it makes life easier.

+1 for toll tags, unfortunately different tags for France and Spain, so you will have to swap them over mid journey.

His vis jackets on view and reachable by driver and passengers. Don't drive in flip flops, sandals, crocs, or barefoot!

It's always worthwhile reading these pages:-

Did you know for instance that in Spain:-

Drivers of cars and motorcycles may exceed the limits shown by 20km/h in order to overtake a slower vehicle outside built-up areas, on roads with one lane in each direction.

Del's correct, it's 2 x warning triangles for Spain. Plus high visibility vests that can be reached from inside the vehicle. I put mine in the pocket behind the front passenger seat, also have a couple more in the back with the tool kit.
You must carry your passport & all your car documents,
Radar detectors are illegal, however you can install Cam Sam on your phone, (works great).
Speeding fine starts at €100, pay it early and get a 50% discount
GB Sticker or Euro plates.

Also when pulled, Big Cry lo siento mucho

However this does not permit you to overtake a stream of traffic doing 110kph in a 90kph area. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

As for driving through France, well the Frog's don't like anyone, however they do like the Scots (some historic reason) so I always fly a French flag in the back of my car Thumbs Up
