Tyre pressures when towing |
|
Does anyone else adjust their tyre pressure when towing a caravan? Having just returned from three weeks away, on a number of site, I have yet to see anyone even look as if they are considering whether their tyres are the correct pressure (car or van) – it is usually load up, couple up and drive away.
I tend to consider 100kgs on the tow ball and an awning, generator, etc. in the boot as constituting being “heavily loaded” !

I do and LR recommend fully loaded pressures when towing, even without the full load in the vehicle, presumably for stability reasons.

Still adds up to a couple of people over the rear axle.
I adjust mine when towing, it’s a little bit skittish in the motorway ruts if I don’t.

Hi
Run on GG AT 40psi in rear 30psi in front.
Caravan 35psi all four, 100kg on towbar, even though the van is 90kg on tow bar find it tows better at 100kg.

That seems very low to me for towing, I prefer 35psi front 46psi rear It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

46 seems way to high as a cold temp. that would be nearer 50 when hot.
I run at 34 front and 40/41 with tintent on the back. but set the tyres at this before leaving home and leave them like that until I get back, so you would never see me checking or changing presures whilst on site. I just run around solo with these settings in between towing until I get home.

Al, tire pressure ratings on tyres are when cold so with Pirelli can run to 50. As a precaution you can, when changing tires, have them filled with nitrogen as this has no moisture (like plain air) so doesn't heat up as much.

We run 33 front 40 rear, this seems to be more stable for us than going higher at the rear. Think the 40 puts it somewhere between being car full and 4 people. Haven't had any problems with undue wear on the rear. If I recall when using our D2 we needed the rears near the max when towing (48 I believe)
Tyre make in my opinion does differ
