Land Rover's new Discovery was equipped with car bombs.
But failed to brake at all.
After the car of the year jury's big car bomb test, Land Rover has launched an internal survey of its cars.
Land Rover Discovery had tougher. Despite the fact that the car is equipped with a car boot system, the test car failed to brake the balloon car at 15 km / h or higher. The test group made another test that went even worse.

I guess we all know that "AEB" is Autonomous Emergency Braking which relies on forward facing cameras.
For what it's worth Land Rover say:-
Quote:
The AEB system will not operate if:
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is switched off.
The vehicle's speed is below 3 mph (5 km/h) or above 50 mph (80 km/h).
The detected object is not identified as a vehicle.
The AEB system may not operate if:
The vehicle is negotiating a bend.
The forward-facing cameras are dirty or obstructed.
Visibility is impaired due to severe weather conditions (for example, heavy rain, fog, snow, etc.).
I'm not sure which vehicles have AEB, certainly the Velar, Discovery 5 & possibly the Discovery Sport.

having doubts of operation with a system like the AEB... is something extremely serious!!! ... its use in a confident or reckless driver... I do not even want to imagine lost in translation!

The Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system uses forward-facing cameras to detect real vehicles, plus other certified Euro NCAP target objects. It is not designed to detect any other objects, including non-industry approved targets.
Quote:
In order for the AEB system to operate, it must be able to detect a clear image of the object and be able to determine its movement. If either of these does not occur, the AEB system may not operate.
From the above it appears that AEB works for real vehicles & NCAP targets which have to be moving.
It appears that it won't recognise a stationery pedestrian, and it is not apparent that it will recognise a moving pedestrian.

I am afraid that now all vehicles are designed to meet "statutory" legislation rather than the real world.

I'm not talking about LR now.... I'm just saying that then many manufacturers use misleading advertising, we continually see advertisements where they use pedestrians to talk about these novel security systemslost in translation!

The tests do use a pedestrian simulation which is supposed to have radar and IR similarities to a real pedestrian.
To be honest, I think even if the system reduces the impact t speed appreciably it is a good thing. Yes, a full stop before impact would be ideal but better to be hit at 10mph than 30mph, for example.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
