Small movement from offside front found at MoT - what is it?
A bit of background - about 8000 miles ago Flack completed an almost full front end overhaul of our D3 using parts I'd purchased from AdvancedFactors. That included:
Upper & lower arms
Inner & Outer track rods
ARB bushes and drop links
Hub bearings
I'd previously replaced the brakes with the V8 upgrade too.
After it was all sorted and aligned, I always felt it wasn't quite "right". You will all know what I mean! It felt like the alignment wasn't quite spot on and there still seemed to be some slight play.
Fast forward to earlier this month and my mate who does my MoT tests noted an advisory that there is very slight play in the front offside. His comment was that he only noted it as the nearside was rock solid.
Any suggestions which component might not be quite right? As it is localised to one side I'm assuming it isn't the rack or the column.Cheers,
Gareth

Finally getting round to looking at this properly...
I put new discs and pads on the front over the weekend (which has solved the vibration at speed due to a warped disc.) I can quite clearly feel a small amount of movement in the steering on the front driver's side hub. The passenger side is rock solid.
Is there anything obvious I should be looking for at the steering rack end or is it likely to just need the inner track rod replacing again?Cheers,
Gareth

To update this...
Whilst I had the Disco in bits over the past week I investigated further - the driver side inner track rod ball joint is knackered. There is a good 5mm of movement in it, which is causing the knocking sensation and wandering tracking. I'm a bit surprised/disappointed at this as it was only replaced a year or two ago and has done limited mileage in and around town since. Assume just an unlucky duff part or SWMBO has hit some big hole/kerb and not mentioned it!
Something else to do before I can get it back on the road...Cheers,
Gareth

Interesting, I too am experiencing similar.
Lower ball joints and inner and outer track rods/ends (quality items from AF) all fitted about a year ago, but within 6 months play and rattily steering over bumps. MOT passed with no issues found but tyres are wearing unevenly. Still not really bottomed out the cause.
I wonder if there is a dodgy batch of track rods doing the rounds? Not such a Disco Newbie now!

Sounds similar to what I've experienced.
I pulled the rubber gaiter back from the inner track rod t'other day and the movement in the inner ball joint is really obvious.Cheers,
Gareth

Repair kit available from various factors; I used Sam @ Island 4x4, was about £25 a side as I recall.... sorted the problem - then a 4-way alignment check at Protyres on their computerised thingamabob made sure everything was set up spot on.
All good! If it has TIT's or WHEEL's it will cause you problems!!

I had one outer track rod replaced after a few thousand miles and the other 5000 later. I also suspect a faulty batch.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.
