Bear with me as I have a question that I hope you can help with.
The rubber seal on my rear propshaft has split and I’ve noticed that a few websites state that a new propshaft is the only solution. However, I also see the centre bearing (which appears to have rubber seal) is available separately for 30 quid or so.
As a result I was interested if a, I need a new propshaft, b, is it a simple job, or c, is the centre bearing all that I need, and finally d, is c a simple job!
Hope that makes some sense, apologies if not 2007 D3 TDV6 XS - GONE

Can be done but not simple and doesn’t always work out well, if you displace the CV joint near the bearing it locks up and is difficult to free up and ruins the whole shaft. Also if you don’t reseal the cv housing well enough after parting it all the grease gets thrown out and you’ve again wasted your time.

I replaced my centre bearing several years ago on mine and did not find it difficult, but then again I have done quite a few on different vehicles over the years.

Most professional advice is to replace. Do you want it failing at 70mph?

Current prop on mine has had Sikaflex to replace the torn rubber mounting for the last c.3 years.
Before that my last D3 had the 'fix' for around 6 years.
I'll probably replace the entire prop next year, for preventative reasons, but the Sikaflex seems to have been as good as replacing the centre bearing and is much less invasive.

Thanks for the replies
Given that mine has 115k I will go down the replacement route as seems less risky for a few reasons, as pointed out above.
Thanks for the link Highlands; island 4x4 have a GKN propshaft for 190 ex vat so it can be another job for the list
