AdBlue freezes at -11c....apparently.

Sorry if this has been covered, but my friends new D5 has been rendered inoperative....apparently the AdBlue froze and various sensors threw a wobbly.
I thought new models were tested in various extreme climates, but apparently Scotland is too extreme Wink
Anyone else having "issues" in very low temps ?

No one on the D5 forum has reported it.

There are owners in Scotland there and USA and Canada.

So one should be able to continue to use the vehicle at low temperatures without it throwing a wobbly

I thought the car disabled DEF in arduous conditions because of this? Just means emissions are not optimal, I wouldn't have thought it rendered the car inoperable especially a landrover Confused Not sure canadian spec has DEF?

On the trucks its as RDR says below certain temp and the system shuts down but shouldnt effect the running of the car, with the trucks if the tank is mounted near to the silencer it has no tank heater, if the tank is remote ie other side of the chassis is has coolant pipe heater coils fitted.

Best of all if the truck is ROW spec they dont even fit the after treatment kit at all because the cold means it will never work Mr. Green makes you wonder what they do with ROW spec adblue cars?

No issues with the D4, and none with the D5.

Apparently they do according to the Canadian owners on Disco5

Also there is a heater, check out the Disc05 thread above for details

Does it expand when it freezes and burst the container - the water in it will.

On my excavator it’s says in the manual not to overfill the tank because it will expand if it freezes!
