Tailgate stuck
So today all of a sudden the rear top tailgate won't open. I had opened it to take some things to the dump, got to the dump 10 minutes later and it wouldn't open. Luckily enough I could access what I needed through the rear seats. I googled the issue and came across a solution which is to press the two lock/unlock buttons on the dash, which operates the motor and then you need a second person at the boot to open it as the motor turns. My question is what part of the latch system do I need to replace? the cable isn't broken as it does open, and the motor obviously runs, so I assume it is something to do with the central locking when I initially unlock the car? Does anyone have any idea what I need to replace?

I had read through some of these posts but I couldn't fathom which bit I needed to replace. I think I may need to replace the button in the upper tailgate but would rather know for sure before I pay out for the parts if anyone can help?

For the sake of clarity chubbchubb, there are many and varied causes any one of which could be your issue and the only way you'll understand them is by reading what they are and going from there.
There is no "one fix for all". It depends what is causing your problem. Mods:

While you're sorting that out (what ever that is) you'll want to sort out a new pulley gizmo with the L bit on the end before said L bit snaps. Not one of LR's brighter pieces of engineering.
