Potential purchase - value / opinions
Hi all,
I’ve been to look at a Disco 4 at a local car dealers. They purport to be Land Rover dealers which they are service wise and have a a fair few Discoveries and Range Rovers on the forecourt. The one I have looked at is a 61 plate HSE in all black, 69000 miles with full service history.
It was up for 24995 but that was quickly reduced to 24000. With that would be a 12 month “platinum” warranty wise, full service and would do the cambelts. It seems mint, 4 newish tyres and spotless inside. The only fault I can find with it is that the start/stop button is a bit scuffed - that’s it.
Is it vastly overpriced for what it is? Would love to see what everyone thinks, I had a budget of around 20k
Cheers
Dave

Im no expert but seems a little high to me. For example, there is a 2014 HSE Lux similar mileage on here for around £3,000 more...MY2023 Discovery 5 R-Dynamic 3.0

I think its overpriced, I've been looking a lot recently as was thinking on selling mine, even though mine is a year older this seems very pricey.
For another £4000 you could have this which seems a great price, I know still lots of ££

He reckoned that this was bang on the money price wise for LR approved which I took with a pinch of salt as they’re an approved JLR service centre which is not the same thing in my book.
With a service, belts and the warranty I think this brought it down to an equivalent of about 22500.
That 14 plate one is lovely but pushing the budget too far unfortunately

Forecourt prices (JLR or not) will always be higher than private sales, so impossible to compare to a private sale, I believe because there would be more come back on a forecourt sold car rather than a private sale, warranty cost etc.
I'm not sure its particularly overpriced, particularly considering the big belt 7 year service being taken into consideration. From what you say, its clearly a good example. Has it got a full service history?MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

Mine will be for sale shortly. It has about a 22 month Warranty Direct warranty for LR labour costs with the betterment clause removed. It has 61,000 miles currently and a full service history. Orkney Grey with light coloured interior which I have up for £22k at present. It's a 12 plate (April 2012) and looks very tidy. This is the rotary gear selector model. It goes into Lookers at Chelmsford when my D5 is ready about mid March.
It has as below in my signature plus full three row rubber mats and a boot floor mat too (all genuine LR) and can vouch for the fact it's a genuine car. All finance will be cleared should anyone be interested.
I'm not so much worried about selling here as the dealers have offered me a good P/Ex but it would be going on the front for about £26k+. I'm offering the car at very similar money to what I've been offered so price wise it's a good deal considering the warranty.
Just trying to show you the sort of deal out there if you look.
Cheers

Irrespective of which oil pump it has, and irrespective of whether the dealer will pay, I would install a new pump when changing belts.

Price wise the overall condition goes a long way to set a price, dealer prices are more than private sellers as they have a legal obligation to stand by the product they sell and they also as a business they have lots of overheads and need to make a profit otherwise eventually they cease to exist, leaving just the big groups to choose from.
If the dealer is an approved service centre then generally they have been a full LR dealer but have declined to spend huge amounts of money converting their adequate showrooms into flash Gin palaces! The only other option is to try and sell up and become part of a faceless group.
Its also worth checking the used prices on the Land Rover web site to get a better feel for LR dealer prices.
Good luck in finding a nice one

Whats happened to the steering wheel, that's some serious wear
God I hadn’t actually noticed that wear on the steering wheel! It’s only on one side though which is strange so I don’t know if it’s because some shorthouse has grabbed the wheel to help themselves get in.
The starter button seemed to have a lot of wear on it too so am wondering whether if it’s had lots of short journeys maybe. I guess there’s plenty about to choose from if I have any doubt about this one.
One other question. I notice in the cubby box there is an iPod socket. The vehicle appears to play video so does that mean I can plug the iPhone in and play videos from that on the main screen?

OP, also looking for something similar.
Spotted a white 2012 HSE for £19K with 77k miles in Co Down, NI. Too far for me to travel but a ferry ride from Pembrokeshire for you I guess. It's on gumtree if you are interested.

While I’m on the subject (kind of) I’m gong to be actually getting this one serviced to keep the warranty up as opposed to doing the work myself.
As I’m relatively new to the forum, and I can’t seem to find it with the search function, is there a way of finding out the service intervals and the approximate cost of each?
Pricing will vary considerably between JLR service centres, I suggest you shop around, and make sure you are comparing like with like !
