Faults then suddenly none!

Thoughts from the learned please!
Up to now I have had DTCs every time I used my IID Tool, but yesterday on a run out to the council recycling the D3 came up with a message and with a loss of power, usual thing just when you are accelerating onto a dual carriageway! It corrected itself and I continued but I did have the usual Engine System Fault message flashing away.
Got home and put the IID Tool on only to find No Faults!
That can't be because there is a legacy fault which shows every time but what amazed me was that there should have been something re the turbo actuator and EGR valves to prompt the Engine System Fault message surely?
I am wondering whether there is an earth fault somewhere or does a split turbo hose trigger an instand fault but not show on DTCs?
To say I am confused is correct!
Ian

I think it is possible on say jags,
that a fault must occur twice for it to be logged as a code.
