This is one for the likes of Disco_Mikey, Geoff and others with an intermit knowledge of the TDV6 2.7 engine, though anybody else is welcome to comment!
I've attached 3 photos one showing which area of the engine this is buried in, the second a close up of that area, and the last a close up of the strange 'thing' which looks like a bike brake cable adjuster!
I've taken a video of the area on the engine but I'll have to work out how to upload it if possible.
I should add that the 'thing' is in the centre of the close up image.

I was about to suggest the same as Paul, but since I don't have a TDV6 as reference any more I was hesitant to say so.
Broken glow plug.

It could be, but the engine starts perfectly from cold!
Nothing re glow plugs are flagged on my IID Tool either.
I'll go out to the garage and see if I can see the other glow plugs and if there is a 'spare' lead!

A broken glow plug won't record a fault in your IIDTool.
Unless part of it is inside a cylinder.

I've just had another look with your information and yes I think it is a glow plug end!
I then looked at the other side of the engine and I can see a sheared off glow plug! Bah!
So I have an engine that fires up OK in cold weather on 4 (Well I say four, maybe fewer!) glow plugs.
The reason I didn't clock it was a glow plug was that on my 200TDi 110 they are VERY much bigger and have a hefty wire connected to it!
Also the 200 TDi really doesn't need glow plugs, maybe the TDV6 doesn't either!
Advice please on whether I should even try to get this drivers side one out and replace it, never mind the totally sheared off passenger side one.
Are there any specialists in the Cardiff area who can get out sheared glow plugs?
Will the rubber connector be damaged or should I look for one of those too?

yes a broken glowplug.
and as the connector rail is also missing, that means at least 3 glowplugs aren't connected
The black and brown 3 wire plugs on top of the engine are meant to provide the power to the GP's
If you have a nose in the middle of the V you might see the brown and black plastic rails
Yep I've had a good nose and I can see the 'spare end' of the orange connector.
I then looked at the other side and I can see the black connector.
From what I can see two glow plugs are connecting either side.
What I can't understand is why the IID Tool doesn't show a DTC because the current taken by 4 glow plugs is a lot less than 6.
How easy is it to take off all the throttle body?
Is it just necessary to renew to renew the 'O' rings or will they last another go?
The side in the photo has got enough 'meat' to get it out, after soaking with penetrating oil for a few days.
As for the passenger side, I'll just have to leave that one for the time being.
From what I have read they are so thin that a screw extractor wound down the middle won't shift them if they are well corroded in.
Any thoughts?

The IID will not show any faults related to glow plugs as the TDV6 does not have a facility to monitor glow plug current or circuit integrity.GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

The Y comes out easily. Pull upwards.
No new seals needed.
But I wouldn't go messing with them unless you are prepaird to take the heads off!
Why don't you measure their resistances on the 3 pin connector and see how many fault ones you have.
Pete
I am inclined to agree, a 'sort if it starts don't fix it'!
Taking the throttle body off will let me check everything I can't see, and do a clear up as its a bit gungy in the valley, certainly on the drivers side of the V.
If there's a leak I will be able to see where it is coming from.
The only reason I had the engine cover off was to check the EGR valves!
The previous owner has blanked those off, so I will concentrate on checking intercooler hoses and the actuator lever.
I can hear the actuator working when I turn the ignition on, so maybe a new arm will keep that working nicely.
The Winns has seemingly done something with the vanes. I'll see how that goes on a proper drive out.
Has anybody tried 'Revive'?
It is a water based product developed for the aviation industry as well as industrial diesel units.
