Couple of noises developing on MY06 TDV6 |
|
My MY06 TDV6 (48,000kms) has developed a tappet noise that is most noticeable at idle, or no load and coasting at less than 30km/h. To me, it definitely sounds like the tappets, but after searching, I haven't seen any posts here that indicate tappets are a common problem. Perhaps (and hopefully) it is not actually tappet noise, and I've read posts regarding other causes. However, I'd like to hear from anyone that has experienced or heard about actual tappet issues and what had to be done to fix it? Other than that, would some of you be kind enough to listen to your cars and let me know if you can make out ANY tappet noise at all when idling?
Also, while I'm at it, there is a faint driveline noise (ie not related to engine speed or load) that sounds like metallic "shhhhhh". It is most prominent when coasting at less than 30km/h, and above that, it is difficult to tell whether the noise disappears, or it simply gets drowned out by the tyre noise. It seems to come from the rear, and it does not change whether I apply the brakes or not, nor when I change directions. Again, I would be grateful if anyone has any information on this or similar issue.
Mind you, both these noises are so faint that I have to listen for them with stereo and A/C fan off to notice them - I'm just being cautious to head off a major issue just in case, eg transmission bearings or some such...
BTW, these issues don't go anywhere near wiping my permagrin from my face whenever I drive the thing...

Mine has become noisier as it has worn in. The side effect is it now goes like s it.
