FBH issue after altering co2 values

I’ll try to keep this short, I recently stripped down and cleaned my fbh following robbies great guide, it was a little coked up so after cleaning I re fitted, before the strip down it would start then not run for a few days after strip down it rarely started so I used the blowing air into the air intake and it would fire every time.

I got all the cables I needed downloaded the software and adjusted the co2 it would then fire every time on demand but this was on a cold engine.

I have the Altox remote and it is set to come on at 5.40 every morning and since I altered the co2 it has worked every morning which is great, problem seems to be when the car is warm anything from 30-60 deg coolant temp the fbh will attempt to fire then fault code 02 or 03, this happens if the car fires up the fbh due to low outside temp or if I try using the remote.

Any ideas (battery fully charged and full tank of fuel )

Changing the CO2 level to increase the burn temperature above design limits is a terrible idea. It may burn carbon more effectively but only until the fuel cup melts, the burner assembly fails or the glowplug quits.

I know that the idea is frequently expressed on the forum but it is not really metricated or justified.

Thumbs Up

How much did you adjust the co2 level by? It only needs a tweak a little at a time. so can you get it running to adjust it back a little?

Hi Robbie It is just a short term test as it wouldn’t fire at all without the aid of air being blown down the air intake, when you refurbed yours did you take any pictures of the cup mine looked like this

Bodsey I went from 95-97 is there a way of increasing the fan speed just at start up as that’s the same as using the air line to help get it started I have a video of the whole start up and run via the Webasto software but no idea how to upload it

What is the deal with the top photo - has the burner assembly been ripped apart?

Hi Robbie, when I followed your guide and I did the screws the top picture shows the part that stayed with the glow plug part the other part was inside the bit that required cleaning no force was used that’s how it came apart I assumed as there was no signs of damage that was how it came apart but did think it was different to the ones in your guide it was the end of the cup on the top picture that concerned me being deformed

I'd love to know if there;'s a way of doing this!! Mine will only start with air assistance (wifes hairdryer) but once its done a full burn it will fire up every time (whilst still warm). If it tries from cold it will fail but I've noticed that the combustion fan is only running at around 20% at start up but obviously needs more....

That’s my thinking extra airvat start up should make all the difference
