19" wheels as big as Landrover let you go ??

Greetings and hello from a newbie,
I've been in correspondance with the local Landie dealer over a D3 and asked about upgrading wheels, his response ?

"I couldn't do anything with the wheels, the HSE has 19" wheels which are the largest Land Rover recommend for the Discovery 3, and you may have warranty claim issues if you fitted bigger wheels and had a problem"

Help ma Bob !!!

Does this mean I can't pimp my ride ? Laughing

Welcome motoberg!!! Quite a few folks here use 20" and a few 22", they will no doubt be along to give you their sage wisdom on what is best for the D3 pimpmobile! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Far be it for me to suggest you simply retain the standard wheels and refit prior to dealer visits...

I had 19" on my D2 where largest std was 18", dealer took it as trade in without issue so seems to be a warranty-specific problem...
 Cheers

Land Rover's stance will always be, if you change something, and it affects an item which you then try and make a warrenty claim, they will reject it. Its up to them to prove your change has caused the issue though.

I've run both RRSport 19's and 20's on mine, the 19's are 9" wide as opposed to the D3 19's which are 8" wide, but both use 255/55x19 tyres, the D3 rated at 111, which is what I have. I've taken the view that the tyre spec is standard D3.

On the 20's, its a good chance that LR might have an issue, as will most insurers. Mine, NFU, wanted 10% extra to cover something that wasnt either standard or a brochure option.

You pays your money and takes your choice.

I've been running with 20" Stormers for well over a year, covering just under 40k miles in that time alone
Been at dealers twice for service with Stornmers on, plus a couple of trips for some warranty work.
Not had any issue from dealer, nor have I had any problems with wheel bearings/steering geometry etc
Even insurance company did not charge extra for change.
Seems though some dealers/insurance companies can be more picky than others.

I know people that use non standard LR wheels. Then when its time to go to the dealers they simply change the wheels back to the standard LR ones.
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Welcome Motoberg.

The D3 is a heavy beast and the LR D3 wheels are rated at 940Kg to correspond to the max rear axle weight limit. So before you go ahead and order/buy non-LR wheels search out the threads on this forum regarding wheel and tyre weight rating. I didn't know of this forum at the time I bought my wheels and then found my aftermarket wheels to be well under; and that could effect insurance in an accident Embarassed
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Rumour has it that LR where looking at bigger brakes to fit inside a 20" for the face lift D3 in 08/09 but due to high unsprung weight and the fact 20" off road tyres are not easily available, they are sticking to 19"

was in the dealer today asking if warranty would be affected by fitting stormers, he said it was highly likely that it would void the warranty but i would need to speak to their parts guy. Explanation was along the lines of the D3 has more body roll than the RRS and the stormers couldnt take the weight or something...
